Amy Bishop has been charged with murder for the 1986 shotgun slaying of her 18-year-old brother in their Braintree home, according to a source directly involved with the inquiry.

A Norfolk County grand jury indicted Bishop, 45, on a single count of first-degree murder, the source said. She faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole if convicted of killing Seth Bishop.

The slaying of Seth Bishop was declared an accident by Norfolk County authorities at the time. But questions were raised about the investigation after Bishop, a college professor, was charged in February in a shooting rampage at the University of Alabama Huntsville. Three of Bishops' colleagues were fatally shot and three wounded in that case.

(1986 Braintree High School yearbook) Seth BishopShortly after the Alabama shootings, current Norfolk County District Attorney William R. Keating launched a review of the Braintree slaying and concluded that Bishop should have been charged at the time with assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. Keating also found that police reports, along with crime scene photos, suggested Bishop may have intentionally shot her brother. One photo of her bedroom, where she had loaded the 12-gauge shotgun, showed a National Enquirer article chronicling actions similar to Bishop's that day. The article reported that a teenager wielding a 12-gauge shotgun killed the parents of actor Patrick Duffy, who played Bobby Ewing on the television show, "Dallas," and then commandeered a getaway car at gunpoint from an auto dealership.

Now we need an investigation of the coverup...

Police released Bishop in 1986 after they received a call from district attorney William Delahunt, now Rep. Delahunt.
The Boston Channel reported:

Braintree officers who remember the 1986 shooting said that former police Chief John Polio dismissed detectives from the case and ordered the department to release Amy Bishop after a telephone conversation with former district attorney William Delahunt.

Delahunt is currently a U.S. congressman from Massachusetts.

“This is not so much Massachusetts coming to their senses as it is a play to keep her from being executed. I think they know their case in Alabama is open and shut. They’ll argue that since she did the crime in Mass first she should do the time in Mass first. Please don’t send her back here; take care of business in Alabama.”

Good observation. She may be tried in Massachusetts after her Alabama trial. I doubt that the Massachusetts verdict will cancel her date with the needle. Her only hope is to beg for mercy especially with her family’s support. The jury may have pity on her children and decide to spare the needle.

Like Texas,Alabama's policy is..."if you come to Alabama and kill someone we will kill you back".

In Massachusetts the policy is "you kill someone and we'll get you all the help you could possibly need".

Somehow I don't think she very worried about *this* charge. That's not to say she feels she hasn't a care in the world, however.

I'm no lawyer but, although you could be right,I don't see how that strategy can possibly work.Alabama wouldn't even *consider* extraditing her.

The Alabama case is a long way from being ‘airtight.’ In fact, they don’t have a case against her at all, at least not one they have made public. Where is the forensic evidence, the eyewitnesses against her? It’s not there. So the Mass case is just to force her to take a plea in the Alabama charges. They are desperate to avoid a public trial and have their house of cards come falling down.

I’m sure the surviving victims and the families of the slain are just thrilled with this. Had they don’t their job properly 24 years ago, their lives and their loved one’s lives would be whole and intact.

Maybe if her mother is still alive she can be charged and do the time in MA while AL takes care of the daughter.

Were the professors she shot all liberals?
Was her brother also a liberal?
If so, this is a win/win situation.

Liberals released her back into society where she might murder more liberals.

Both of her parents are still alive and living in large house on the beach near Boston.

The case against the mother is very thin and the police chief is dead. The case against the mother is a weak circumstantial case at best, there is no smoking gun, no tapes of her thanking the cheif for brooming the case.

The law defends liberals as well as conservatives. There really aren’t any “winners” in this sad, sad story.

Delahunt is retiring to his home in Cuba, or Venezuela. I forget. So, it’s safe to charge her. After all this is Ted Kennedy country. Rules are different for lefties.
