The geoglyphs are formed by ditches up to 11 metres wide and 1 to 2 metres deep. They range from 90 to 300 metres in diameter and are thought to date from around 2000 years ago up to the 13th century.

Why do they assume they are “glyphs,” which assumes some communication purpose, and not just irrigation trenches of some sort for what used to be an agricultural area?

I saw something about this a while back and tried to google earth it.
Didn’t find anything but, it is very interesting.

But, would the presence of such “glyphs” be evidence that the rain forest has NOT always been there?

I'm confused. In what way were the strange carvings able to use Google Earth?

anyone interested in crop-marks in this context might want to check out Prehistoric Britain from the Air (there are 2 such books, you want the black and white one with crop mark pictures, not the one with color pictures of prominent landmarks), great stuff from roman and earlier time.

"...are thought to date from around 2000 years ago up to the 13th century" "While some Inca sites lie just 200 kilometres west of the geoglyphs, no Inca objects have been found at the new sites."
Maybe that's because the Inca civilization didn't start until the 13th century.
