And the same could be said about playing or traveling to A&M, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, etc.
As a season ticket holder, I would have loved the Pac 16 but down here in Austin, it is all about the money and Bevo poops money by the millions.
“Texas was never leaving. This was what Texas wanted all along.”
The writer of the article has no idea if this is true. All the “experts” look at events after they happen, and then tell us how they knew all along what was going to happen.
The fundamental issues of the conferences are still unresolved.
Why should UTx and aTm make the money to fund KU or ISU sports? Why should UF, UGa and UTn make the money to fund UMs etc sports. Why should UNC make the money to fund Wake sports?
Ultimately we may see the super conference with programs that can carry their own weight forming a few conferences around the country.
Living in a league which might feature clashes of titans most every week?”
The PAC 16.....when would they ever feature a clash of titans? And they just added CU about the 3rd most relevant team in Colorado (lol). What alternate universe is this lady living in. Bill Powers, the Cal Berkley moonbat running UC Austin will eventually get his wish but A&M called his bluff this time.
They should change the name of the Big 12 to the Big Texas conference. There is TU, and then there are TU’s nine little lapdogs slobbering all over themselves to follow along. Oklahoma is the real disappointment in all this. If any school could write its own ticket and go its own way it should be OU. But instead OU once again bows to its master south of the river.
I still believe Stallings outsmarted them. If A&M went to the SEC all of a sudden Texas wasn’t as “wanted” by the PAC 10.
That's probably a much bigger factor than has been generally discussed. I think if anything like a 'super conference' did exist, fans would tire of it. There could be only one undefeated team after a conference championship game. We have that in twelve team conferences, but in sixteen or larger conferences, that would eliminate several big names, and there would be no end to the whining and complaining from every team that had one loss, or even two or three losses, making a case for the championship game or a BCS bowl.
Years ago, all the 'best minds' were pushing all sorts of business mergers, acquisitions, symbiosis and diversification. But after a decade or so, many of those transactions went sour, never blended well and were deemed failures and eventually undone in one way or another. I think this merger mania and expansion mania in college football would up the same way.
Mega-conferences might diminish fan interest rather than increase it.
I was just thinking maybe the Big 12 could rename itself the SouthWest Conference.
Yep, Texas/Oklahoma game winner gets the Auto-bid to the BCS if they are rank right(my guess top 20 or 15, auto BCS Champ Game bid if in top 10).
