Road damage is strongly related to weight. Trucks do much more damage than cars. Bikes, basically none.
I think we ought to ban automatic transmissions and the people who buy and drive them.

When they take 4 lane roads (2 lanes in each direction) and restripe them for 3 lanes (1 lane in each direction and a bidirectional turn lane) and stripe for bicyclists, they are increasing the traffice load (weight, wear and tear) on the remaining lane. Doesn’t sound road smart.

The tax automobile owners pay is a "use" tax, not a road damage tax...the fact that the money is used to repair the road makes it that much smoother for the whining bicyclists out there.
If the Automobile owners didn't pay that tax, you guys would be getting a lot of briars in your spandex panties riding on garden paths and wooded trails.
People don't normally do a lot of damage to say, motel rooms, but they have to PAY to STAY THERE.
If you are so determined that you have "equal right" to the road, then why shouldn't you share "equal expense".
Bicyclist are mostly arrogant, selfish, and elitist - probably mostly liberals too.
In this life, you have to pay to play...and you ain't paying.
