The tax automobile owners pay is a "use" tax, not a road damage tax...the fact that the money is used to repair the road makes it that much smoother for the whining bicyclists out there.
If the Automobile owners didn't pay that tax, you guys would be getting a lot of briars in your spandex panties riding on garden paths and wooded trails.
People don't normally do a lot of damage to say, motel rooms, but they have to PAY to STAY THERE.
If you are so determined that you have "equal right" to the road, then why shouldn't you share "equal expense".
Bicyclist are mostly arrogant, selfish, and elitist - probably mostly liberals too.
In this life, you have to pay to play...and you ain't paying.

Call it whatever you want, cars overpay road taxes and trucks underpay.
It's funny that you actually know NOTHING about what vehicles I own and use and how much taxes I pay. As I indicated before, automatic transmissions should be banned along with those who buy and use them.

Yeah that’s why we have the BRAN rides for charity, going across the state of Nebraska. Have a different ride coming up also that is for getting clean drinking water for countries that do not have...
Isn’t it fun to lump everyone you dislike into one camp so you can make ignorant statements.
Biking is like everything else. There are those that are stupid and there are those that are sensible. It is kind of silly to paint with such a broad brush.

One must admire the passion you have on this topic...
The tax automobile owners pay is a "use" tax, not a road damage tax
Actually, the law is not written that way. The fees are a way to cover the cost of registering your vehicle and to cover a certain percentage of the state's general funds. My registration fee is the same regardless of how much I drive. I think you are confusing a "use tax" with tolls that are to be paid on toll-roads. Bicycles are prohibted by law to use those, so you should be in heaven knowing that.
If the Automobile owners didn't pay that tax, you guys would be getting a lot of briars in your spandex panties riding on garden paths and wooded trails.
A few observations:
- Believe it or Not, roads have long predated the automobile, by at least several millennia. Do not pretend that roads only exist for motorvehicles.
- There is a very large community of cyclists who routinely ride among the wooded trails and briars - they ride these contraptions called "mountain bikes"
- Cyclists pay the same in taxes used for the roads as you do. It comes in the form of property, income and sales taxes. A portion of your gasoline tax goes to the state and pays for freeways and DOT bureaucracy. God only knows how else they squander the rest.
- I pay for a whole lot of stuff that I would be arrested for trespassing if I used. In addition to that, every town spends tax dollars on ball parks, soccer fields, beaches, playgrounds, community pools, libraries, and other dedicated entertainment venues. When I see you protesting people using those facilities without paying a "use" tax, then you may get some credibility with me.
- Also, the patch of roadway near the curb is often times littered with broken glass, sharp metalic building materials, trash, gravel and all kinds of junk that falls off or is tossed from motor vehicles. If I were to use your broad brush, I would call you a littering selfish pig, but I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt about your civility - please reciprocate to your fellow citizens who don't buy into your caste system where your neighbor becomes inferior to you whenever she mounts a bicycle and heads out for some fun.
