Although we haven't experienced the pleasure (terror?) of sampling it, we're willing to bet that the fish 'n' chips ice cream being produced by an English dairy company qualifies for the Strange Snacks of the World Hall of Fame.
The ice cream is creamed cod-flavored, encased in a vanilla and pepper batter, and served with potato ice cream chips and, naturally, salt, vinegar, and lemon wedges.
On the face of it, cod doesn't seem to be the most auspicious ice cream flavoring, but the deep-fried crust is reminiscent of the Mexican fried ice cream that Chi-Chi's began pimping in the '80s. Seafood-enhanced ice cream actually has a long history; Dolley Madison, for one, was apparently a huge fan of oyster ice cream.
And bizarro ice cream flavors aren't really new: San Francisco's Humphry Slocombe makes foie gras and government cheese varieties; Japan has produced horse meat and chicken wing ice creams; and garlic ice cream has turned up at food festivals and restaurants throughout the country. Back in England, Heston Blumenthal's bacon and egg ice cream has already set the bar high for odd flavors. And closer to home, there is of course Wylie Dufresne's ice cream bagel.
So fish 'n' chips ice cream, while certainly veering far from the beaten path paved by chocolate and strawberry, isn't all that weird. Whether it actually tastes good, however, remains open to interpretation.
Yum
I’ll wait for the Spam flavored ice cream.
I might make a special trip to Brooklyn if the original Nathan’s in Coney Island comes out with frog’s leg ice cream.
I like to make ice cream. The oddest flavor I ever made personally was Hops ice cream. I had an especially good crop of Cascade hops and decided to make some ice cream.
You have to be a fan of finishing hops to like it but it was not bad.
I still miss Dr. Atkins’s low-carb ice cream. The strawberry was my favorite. Sigh...
Two summers ago, I made elderberry flower cordial. IMO, it would make a lovely ice cream. I did make a sorbet with some of it and it was delightful. There are elderberry flower syrup recipes online, if it interests you.

Ah, the Garlic Festival! Hubby and I used to go every year when we lived in northern California.
I never saw the look on his face, before or since, that he had when he tasted garlic ice cream for the first and last time.
I know I would like a hop-vanilla ice cream. The bitterness of the hops would go well with the sweetness of the ice cream.
