A banned-breed dog that killed a boy of four had been handed back to its owner by police after going astray, a court heard yesterday.
Helen Foulkes, 63, admitted possessing the pit bull that "oozed venom" and savaged her grandson John-Paul Massey.
She was told she may be jailed under the Dangerous Dogs Act.
As well as her guilty plea, magistrates heard claims the illegal animal had been roaming loose when it was picked up by police and brought back to the family.
The American pit bull, Uno, was returned to her son Christian Foulkes, 22, who was jailed for four months last week for owning and breeding dangerous dogs.

I’m aghast! A pit bull actually killed someone! You’re kidding right?
If I had a dog, ANY dog, that killed a four year old child, I couldn’t imagine letting it live long enough to get away from me. That dog would be brought to the vet and given a couple of injections, assuming I didn’t lose it and do the job personally.
No bad dogs only bad owners! /s
My American bulldog is only seven months old and he already has balls like apples.
The English ruined the breed when they started crossing them with pugs: now they’re fat slugs that can barely move on their stumpy legs and struggle to breathe through their flat nasal stops.
“She was told she may be jailed”
She should be.
Idiots...
“Joanne Parsons, prosecuting, said: “Helen Foulkes is a victim herself but the court cannot overlook the fact that two illegal dogs - Uno and Lita - were kept at the address....As well as her guilty plea, magistrates heard claims the illegal animal had been roaming loose when it was picked up by police and brought back to the family.”<<<<
Of course, the owners are completely blame-free. Just because they owned not one, but two illegal dogs (male and female, which could mean they were breeding them) and allowed one of them to roam outside unleashed, doesn’t make them irresponsible or criminal (except for the technical fact that they are). The dog was just evil enough to trick them into believing he was a labrador, and that he was SUPPOSED to be outside running free.
This is one of the best examples of why the experts say irresponsible ownership is the leading cause of dog attacks. Banning pit bulls not only has not decreased the average number of dog attacks in the UK, but it has created a demand for pit bulls that has resulted in an increase in their population since they were banned. Banning the dogs made it so that responsible, law-abiding dog owners either left or got rid of their dogs, leaving only the criminal, irresponsible people who were causing the problems in the first place!
For the record, no areas that have banned pit bulls have seen reductions in dog attacks. Places that have NOT banned them, but instead passed responsible dog ownership laws that every dog owner must abide by, HAVE seen decreases. Calgary, for example, has had a sizeable decrease in dog attacks from all breeds since implementing such laws. They still have just as many pit bulls there. Many countries that originally banned pit bulls and other breeds have since repealed the bans after finding they were ineffective.
I wonder how this `venom-dripping’ ugly-septic tank `American pitbull’ was allowed into the sceptered isle. Especially if he’s considered to be an illegal breed.
I thought the limeys put imported dogs into a 3 month quarantine before allowing the owner to take them home.

And then when he got loose, the Bobbies politely returned him to the owner, who must have been a real piece-of-work to own a killer like `Uno.’
I really wish I could agree. Ask the little 'ol lady whose Pitt finally launched into her. Oh, that's right, she's not here because her doggie pet killed her. Pitts are ticking timebombs with mechanized jaws. I love dogs and there is no way that I'd ever own a Pit. Genetically they will turn...someday; somehow. tick...tick...tick.....
Dogs of Peace.
