Four earthquakes at Katla in past 12 hours
11 Jun 10 - Four earthquakes have occurred below Iceland's Mýrdalsjökull glacier during the past 12 hours - one within the past hour. Katla Volcano lies beneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier.
Thanks to Thomas Loher for this info.
There is a chance you'll be hit by an asteroid too - sound abserd - yes. Same with 'slightest chance' claims.
It becomes misinformation when the data does not support the interpretation. "Slightest chance" doesn't factor in when scientists are reviewing all of the available data. History review to show my point -
in post 24 this thread you stated
You do know that swarm is still going? And it has been even more active in the last week. http://www.quake.utah.edu/helicorder/ymr_webi_1d.htm
Then your misinformation
I would be surprised if we don't see something that comes from this event in Yellowstone. At the very least I fully expect at least a gas release in Yellowstone sometime during this swarm.
I showed you a figure depicting the earthquakes in Yellowstone and immediate area for that past week - with only about a half dozen mag 1 quakes scattered around the area. When challenged about your ability to interpret the data on your link, you supplied a similar map with only a few quakes in Yellowstone - so one has to ask
1. Was the 'swarm' continuing? Answer: No, there was no current swarm, let alone the Jan 2010 activity. Result: You misinformed the reader as to the current earthquake activity.
2. You interpreted the data to claim that an off-gassing event "sometime during this swarm.". Since there was no swarm to begin with and even a quick check with USGS Volcano Hazards Program indicates no active 'swarm' or impending 'off-gassing', you've once again thrown misinformation out there.
Now do you want to follow valid scientific procedures and principles, or continue the chicken little routine and proclaim anything, no matter how remote the chance or lack of support.
Thanks! Love ‘em!
sure, try to do that with the thread we were talking about
Done that. I’d explain it to you further, but I dont have any crayons with me. You’ve more that adequately proven my point considering you attitude toward those who really know what they are talking about and those like you who have delusions of adequacy. Have a nice day.
How many does that make?
Not sure but I do notice that the number of active volcanoes around the world is growing.
Fine, I’ve done that already. You are able to follow things up thread. Knock your self out.
in post 62 you took that from this thread.
Apparently you are unable to follow back to post 24, sorry you are challenged by that. Have a nice day.
I intentionally kept my personal opinion off that thread.
You started the thread and linked it to a recent earthquake map of the park. The title of the thread - the title you made was
Yellowstone might go on first stage alert soon.

I stated that the USGS interpretation of the swarm was common movement along preexisting faults and not associated with the movement of magma. I made those comments in association with post 47 to some one else. You got snotty and didn't like my observation but apologized. However, by post 269 you were rejecting the expert opinion and interpretation of the USGS volcanologists. You then went on to "your" opinion that the seismograph was registering 'harmonic tremors' signifying movement of magma - counter to the USGS experts. . . . .
Need I go on? You interjected your personal opinions starting with the title and continuing through the misrepresentation of seismic data.
Why do you want to continue to belabor the point? Have a nice day.
A few days latter there was a great deal more harmonic motions.
Yes personally got a few harmonic motions mixed up with a old faithful but as i said I am an amateur.
I remember explaining the stages someplace in that thread. That wasn’t my terminology.
Historical Climatologist Evelyn Browning Garriss of The Browning Newsletter said in an interview earlier this year on Jim Puplava's Financial Sense Newshour that the last four times the other volcano with the unspeakable name erupted, it was followed by Katla, and the results were much greater in effect because Katla blows ash much higher in the atmoshere so its effects are felt much further around the world.
If staging issue is really what you are angry about then dont look at me for making that stupid color coding system. Stage yellow is first stage second stage is orange and so on.
Better late than never to acknowledge the error.
For starters, post #1 should have addressed the different stages defined by the USGS and perhaps a point of interest about the swarms and referencing how common they are - minus the impending upgrade of warning - I probably would have had no problem. The title was suggestive of USGS upping the stage, while the link provided had nothing to do with volcanic stages or even the usgs interpretation of the swarm. The combination of the two yielded misinformation that inferred otherwise. That combined with your other 'opinions' that were ill informed and unfounded. . . . hopefully you get the picture now.
