Thank you for your thoughts on onions. One thing I learned this year is that I shall always plant red onion sets. I like them the best, since I mostly use them for green onions snipped into salad.

The article lysie referenced answers all my questions and even some questions I never thought to ask! I’ve saved it for future reference and printed it to share with a friend. I imagine the early bolting I’m experiencing is a result of wide temperature fluctuations here — a week of 80s followed by a week of 50s and 60s.

Dang! It’s hard to grow food!

I left my onion in the ground over the winter. Mine are starting to flower. It's harvest time!! :-)

I just planted onions yesterday after I pulled up the spinach that went to seed due to a really hot day a few weeks ago.

My question....

Do you plant the top or bottom of the bulb 1” deep. Don’t laugh, that’s a big difference. Well, OK, laugh if you want. ;-)

I planted the tops 1” deep.
