A Little Gab, a Little Politics (The View)
Wall St. Journal ^ | 06/10/2010 | AMY CHOZICK

'The View' Becomes a Must-Stop For Politicians Trying to Reach Women, And Willing to Dish on Iran and Love.

"Vice President Joe Biden is here, and he looks very handsome."

With those words, Barbara Walters opened up a recent segment of "The View," a daily TV gabfest known for gossip and girl talk. But on this day, Ms. Walters asked Mr. Biden about UN sanctions against Iran. An audience member shouted a question about middle-class tax cuts. And then another asked co-host Sherri Shepherd where she buys her plus-size bras.

The Biden-and-bras mix offers one answer to a vast question hanging over marketers and politicians trying to connect with women: What exactly do women want today? They are an increasingly crucial constituency who make most household buying decisions and are more likely than men to vote in midterm elections, but striking the right tone is a delicate balancing act. At "The View," producers are drawing in millions of women by veering from serious to sassy, and back. The show is tilting away from simple celebrity plugs and devoting more time to weighty political topics.

This is a pretty disappointing article, especially considering the Wall St. Journal is suppose to be the "conservative" counter-point to the New York Times.

The author doesn't address the wildly disproportionate number of liberal commentators to conservative commentators, and if fact she describes Elizabeth Hasselback as the shows "outspoken conservative". Not only is Hasselback not really a conservative, but is she anymore "outspoken" than any of the other co-hosts?

At 3.9 million daily viewers, The View is a political force to be reckoned with, especially with respect to the female demographic. I just wish they had a real conservative on the panel; One who is well-informed, charismatic and articulate.

This is truly disheartening. I am a woman and cannot stand to watch even 5 minutes of this show. The women are clueless, uninformed and just plain full of it. Elizabeth Hasselback is far too meek. Some of the most poisonous leftist “celebrities” have been regulars on this program. Elizabeth is not doing anyone on the right any favors by validating this program with her presence.

Couldn’t agree more.

I’m not a woman and I’d shoot myself before I’d watch it.

Worse than going to the dentist. ‘Pod

I agree. I like to think I’m in line with most other women in this country, but not when I find out so many watch this truly awful show.
