Man Kills Self With Homemade Guillotine

A depressed Russian engineer built a macabre homemade guillotine to commit suicide in his bedroom, Pravda reported Tuesday.

Troubled Albert Repin told his parents he was building a closet at their Moscow home.

But behind his locked bedroom door, the 47-year-old divorced man was secretly building a chilling replica of the 18th century killing machine -- famously used to behead enemies of the French Revolution.

Repin spent several days assembling his DIY guillotine out of plywood, rope, and metal sheeting.

Finally, he climbed into position before cutting the rope to release the heavy, makeshift blade.

"The guillotine did not cut off his head completely only because the metal was not sharpened," a local police spokesman said.

Repin's parents asked his brother to kick down the bedroom door when he wouldn't respond to calls.

The shocked sibling burst in to find Repin's body slumped beside the horrifying execution device, Pravda said.

Relatives say he never got over his divorce, which happened several years ago.

.. ??? CSI-Topeka....

This would be a respite from their shows about looters who follow the twisters and speeding 'storm chasers', right?

I feel that way sometimes. I’m just too cowardly to kill myself.

Don't kill yourself and deprive me of that one joy!

Just kidding. If you need, email me. I'm here to help.

I can see the possibility of my death from my own device, but it wouldn’t be suicide. More likely a left out safety on my Trebuchet while trying to break a mile in distance.

So his parents let his live with them, so he builds a device to not only kill himself in their house, but to dump as much blood as possible everywhere. He took a few days to build it, so he had time to think about it, and he decided he wanted his own parents to discover his decapitated body, and have them deal with all his blood dumped out in the room.

He sounds like such a family oriented fellow, can't imagine why his wife would leave. I feel sorry for his parents.

Good for you. I thought about this some more before going to bed last night, and realized that of course not all problems are temporary. I have thought that I hope if I get Alzheimers that I figure it out soon enough so I could kill myself before I put my family through that misery. But... I suppose I would only be exchanging one misery for the other for them?

As much as folks like to joke about this suicide - it is a serious problem for some of us. And most of us I suppose at one time or another. My thoughts are with you.

Not a good time to lose one's "head".
That's not the way to get "ahead" in life.
It's a shame he wasn't more "headstrong".
He'll never be the "head" of a major corporation.

I'll be sure to give his family a HEADS up.

Back then it probably wasn’t weird. Today, it would be weird to have your dad around while you were in school. So, you got that going for you.

I imagine most folks have thoughts of suicide at times. I know I did. Not too much lately. Things were pretty bad for awhile there years ago. But... day by day goes by and things CAN get better. One piece of advice I heard was “wait a day”. And if you still thought like it, “wait a week”, etc. I forget where the advice ended (a year!?)

Last time I looked it was wait until the next election cycle. ;-D.

All of that said, if my wife divorced me and caused me so much pain that I would want to kill myself, I would probably set the guillotine up on her front doorstep so she could find me. And make sure the blade was sharp!

Do you think she'll notice? How sweet. Sort of like a cat leaving a dead mouse in the driveway for its owner me thinks. LOL. Of course you would never . . ..

I felt that way in 1978. Wife left, took our 2 kids. Since then I have enjoyed all the messes she has made in her life. The sugar daddy she picked out before our divorce died 4 or 5 years after she left me. She has been married to at least 2 other men since then. She has been married to the present hubby about 10 years. He has several ex wives and has had to pay child support on their kids. She lives in one town. He lives and works in another all week, visits her on week ends. That makes it easier to keep up her love life. Our kids have moved away from her.

Except for losing my kids, our divorce was one of the best things that have ever happened to me. ;0)

You can maybe see why he ended up in a divorce.

She was obviously no dummy.

That I have seasonal depressions? I think the guy in the story probably had something like that and it doesn’t take much to set them off. A negative comment to me on a message board or whatever might set me off for a half hour.

Of course my seasonal depression isn’t nearly bad enough to make me want to kill myself. And of course, I’m way too lazy and scared to ever even try it. lol.

You rang, sir? I was looking for another Wilson cartoon that was in Playboy years ago. The one where the dead old rich guy is sitting in his overstuffed chair, gun in mouth, with blood spattered all over the curtains behind him. The rich widow is standing with the maid at the door and she says, "Just like Henry to leave a mess to clean up." Couldn't find it anywhere.
