Imagine a world where a natural or man made disaster happened under President George W. Bushs watch. He isnt responsible for the disaster of course, however the people who are directly connected to the disaster were also among his top donors and his Administration gave them special favors which are tied to the disaster. Add to that imagine if President Bushs closest advisor Karl Rove also received a rent free apartment from those directly connected to the catastrophe. Then envision after the disaster the Bush Administration covered up how large the calamity actually was.
How would the press react? Well in the cases of the September 11th attacks and Hurricane Katrina, two disasters that the President didnt have the close ties as described above, a number of people in the media gave credence to stories that the President somehow caused both circumstances. In fact a large portion of the Democratic Party still believes President Bush was somehow behind the terrorist attacks in 2001.
Why then the relative silence with President Obama and the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico today? When the disaster happened Politico did report that British Petroleum (BP) and its employees have given more than $3.5 million to federal candidates over the past 20 years, with the largest chunk of their money going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. And the Washington Post reported how The Interior Department exempted BPs calamitous Gulf of Mexico drilling operation from a detailed environmental impact analysis last year, according to government documents, after three reviews of the area concluded that a massive oil spill was unlikely. Outside of the LA Times blog I have seen no other reporting on how President Obamas Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel received a rent free apartment from a BP adviser. Lastly it has just come to light BP and the Obama Administration withheld videos showing just how massive the oil spill actually was. If this was President Bush those facts would be in every story about the President, however beyond the initial reporting these facts are left out of the large majority of the stories.
My point isnt that the President caused the accident. More that the press continues to cover for him and his Administrations poor response. They see him as their Superman still (though right now theyd be better off with an Aquaman.) Imagine the arrogance of President Obama on the Today Show this morning that I dont sit around just talking to experts because this is a college seminar, we talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose a** to kick
If the President where honest and more in line with his campaign talk, hed not only be looking for a way to stop and contain the oil spill (as opposed who, other than himself, to blame) but also for an invention that allows him to kick his own behind.
He refers to himself four times in just that one short clip. The Narcissist-in-Chief.
He can kiss mine ...
Not without kicking himself in the teeth.
Well he can make the waters recede, so why not!
I dunno - but I’d pay good money to watch it.
