Wi-Fi network saturated. AT&T 3G is no help either (big surprise - MDN ed.)
Comment on another blog:
Steve asked someone else on stage for suggestions.
Someone in the audience yelled: "Try Verizon!"
Later in the presentation, they announced they had counted 570 WiFi devices in the room, and told everyone to turn them off. After that, the demo went fine.

Well, that just changed the game for phones again. The iPhone got a couple technologies already out there (noise cancelling mic), but introduced a whole bunch that will have the other manufacturers scrambling to copy.
The developers will also love the ads. I never click on a Droid ad exactly because it’s going to take me out of the program to a web site. Apple’s method will make a lot of developers a lot more money.
And just the other day I was wishing my Droid could edit video, even simple cropping (I couldn’t find an app for that either) would have sufficed. Of course, now the iPhone can, with full-blown iMovie.

just purchased a new on in January. Bummer. Read the whole log.
You will be able to purchase an iPhone 4 6 months after you bought your previous iPhone -- if it was an iPhone.
Dunno what happens if you bought another phone.

Yeah, I’m almost sorry I got mine in January, too. Still, the last 4+ months have been fun, and my 3GS isn’t going to get any worse; in fact, iOS4 should bring improvements even on the older hardware.

I will have to check out the rest of the article. I purchased the newest iphone with the video and obviously signed a new contract.

I will have to check out the rest of the article. I purchased the newest iphone with the video and obviously signed a new contract. I may have misinterpreted. Another blogs says: "up to 6 months of early eligibility".
That may mean shortening a 24-month contract to 18 months. However, AT&T already allows you to upgrade after 21 months.

Why would they not set up their own wireless and dedicated line for the demo? I guess Google had similar problems recently...how can you let that happen...

Yes. Although I waited that long as I wanted the video. Had I known I would certainly have waited, but as you said the iOS4 should bring some improvements as well. I haven’t read the whole article yet, so maybe there is some other alternative. I would just hate to spend a bunch more dough and have them improve once again on the iOS4 in six months. Well you know the story—bought it yesterday and today is a new technological hardware/software upgrade and then in a month and then in six months . . . never really catch to the newest for long. But hey I would rather that than being stuck in non innovation times.

I was pretty stoked that they are going to roll out the new OS even for my 3g version.
Although I might buy the new phone regardless. But not on opening day. Not going to participate in fanboy tummy stick action.

Why would they not set up their own wireless and dedicated line for the demo? I'm sure they did.
But Wi-Fi is an unlicensed band, and all of those devices were sharing a relatively small amount of bandwidth. So, their own AP would have been competing with everyone else.

I loved the AT&T epic fail moment.
That was a WiFi issue, not AT&T. But it was funny when someone in the audience shouted, "Try Verizon."
