"US First Lady Michelle Obama delivers remarks on the South Lawn of the White House June 4, 2010 in Washington, DC to over 1,000 chefs from across the US recruited to join her anti-obesity campaign and help schools serve healthier, tastier meals."

We have holly, too, but only two, and I cut them back when they get in my way. My husband would never prune anything, if it were left to him, and the lugustrum would be blocking the windows up to the second floor!
We get deer in the subdivision, since we have woods and fields, but not at our house.
Holly doesn’t seem to mind being pruned. I like all of our plants except the arborvitae, because the deer just walk right up to the house and eat it back to the trunk. We lost two japanese maples over the winter, probably due to voles.
Really, voles? I didn’t know they ate trees.
Our cat used to catch them in Tennessee and leave the corpses all over the deck ... when she didn’t come in and throw them up.
From Wiki:
“They will readily thrive on small plants. Like shrews they will eat dead animals and like mice or rats, they can live on most any nut or fruit. Additionally, voles will target plants more than most other small animals. It is here where their presence is mostly evident. Voles will readily “girdle” or eat the bark of small trees and ground cover much like a porcupine. This girdling can easily kill young plants and is not healthy for trees or other shrubs.
Voles love to eat succulent root systems and will burrow under plants or ground cover they are particularly fond of and eat away until the plant is dead. Bulbs in the ground are another favorite target for voles; their excellent burrowing and tunnelling gives them access to sensitive areas without clear or early warning. A vole problem is often only identifiable after they have destroyed a number of plants.[1]”
Wow, I had no idea! Our (rental) house in Tennessee had no landcaping except some struggling grass.
I’m guessing then that you were vole-free. :)
If you are talking about Bush, I believe that is the ranch in Texas. Doing REAL work instead of a photo-op so we can see sweat on Obama’s alpha-female.
Funny - I thought that her green bra was worn under the dress ...
I suppose they were out in the woods. Agnes loved hunting them, as well as squirrels and chipmunks. The call of the wild for the formerly-suburban kitteh. She would disappear for two or three days, sometimes.
So we flew 1000 chefs from all over the US FOR HER PHOTO OP?
Is she wearing some kind of garabage bag?
There are times I really wish we could have a cat.
Allergies? We have two cats ... and the dog, the gerbil, the fish, six lizards, and the snake.
Serious allergies. My husband is deathly allergic to them.
Too bad ... catz are nice. But greyhounds are a good substitute, if you can’t have catz.
No. I was talking about the White House. The dirt they trucked in was contaminated.
It's something we have talked about a number of times. We really miss our old grey.
Ah, we have only the one greyhound (so far!). And she’s not old enough to need a lot of medical care. We’ve been spending more at the reptile vet!
I am not a reptile person, except for turtles. Small ones. :)
Well her arms are bigger than Barry’s.
