The internet says that the purpose of this signal is unknown, but that it is speculated that it is a “deadman switch.”
Not good, considering that the switch has stopped working. May be the end of the world.

The “deadman switch” is off.
This means that all the Russian moles and Manchurian Candidates that have been waiting to take over the US Government will be activated. We can expect an onslaught of Socialist legislation and an assault on the American economy never dreamed of .....
Oh, wait .....
.....never mind.

Ah yes, the "woodpecker". As a ham radio op for years, this was one aggravating NOISE out there on the spectrum. For those who "wonder" what it sounds like, Wikipedia comes through for us again. Go
HERE and you'll see the audio link to the right. Hearing it is hearing a part of history. (one more check mark for the bucket list! :-)

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.

to a non-radio person like me this sounds like ‘On the Beach’ where a Coke bottle tipped over was tapping out erratic signals. And everybody thought it was code.

Are they switching formats? I always wanted to hear top 40. Maybe they will be going to be a gangsta rap station.
Maybe they are stunting.
To: LuigiBonnafini
Maybe someone finally realized the damn thing was still transmitting, and shut it down.

Hay, watch it! I can recall taking tubes to the hardware store and using their tube tester. You would buy a replacement for your bum tube and repair your radio or, later, your TV. Pitcher tubes were the olden times equivalent of today's blue screen of death.
