"If there's an unequivocal opposite to growing up around guns," says Andrew Rothman, "it's being raised by New York Jews." He puts down his glass of water and wipes his dark goatee with a napkin. It would be quite the outlandish statement were he not talking about himself.

Rothman is the executive director of the Minnesota Association of Defensive Firearm Instructors. Before you can get a permit to carry, you have to take a handgun class taught by a guy like him.
He doesn't fit central casting's stereotype of gun nut. Nor do his three companions for dinner tonight at a St. Paul restaurant. One is a retired attorney, another a law professor, a third a retired business consultant. Everyone at the table is packing.

Long read, worth the while.
Aw...crap...I screwed up the excerpt...click the link and ignore the Olbermann-Bachmann stuff that got included in the excerpt....SORRY.
I am SHOCKED! Truly shocked that the CP actually had an article like this....
CP?....Fair and Balanced??
;-)
Nitpicking, I know.
Nothing gets by a FReeper.....
;-)
What's that? A brokeback reporter Buckmark?
The author was admonished in the comments section.....
I quit reading the City Pages when the ditched the personals.
Actually picked up CP at the Liqour store because of this article. Very good. Shockingly the reporter didn’t do their homework and get their permit to purchase.
If the premise of the article is to see how easy to purchase a firearm, why wouldn’t you...you know...follow the rules?
Well, the premise is that one can purchase a handgun at a show without a permit and the author proved that to be false....
M.O.B. will tell the twin cities what they can have. The liberal utopia of gangs and cops.
I suppose.
Ping!
If the likes of Joan were truly for a safer Minnesota, they would be advocating that everyone capable get a permit to carry.
The stats show crime is reduced thus Minnesota is safer.
Absolutely!
Between lunatic left and maniac left.
If it's OK to use a background check before allowing a person to exercise one right then why isn't it OK to use the same system before someone can register to vote or get an abortion? After all, felons can't vote and people who are mentally incompetent can't consent to medical procedures. Somehow I don't think the lefties would view NICS checks so warmly then.
Very good article. Nice to see someone actually did their homework before running their mouth.
I conducted a personal sale of a firearm in Minnesota. We met in a parking lot and I checked his permit to purchase and his identification. Nice and legal...can’t remember his name now, not that it matters anyway :)
