NEW YORK- Horse racing's final Triple Crown event, The Belmont Stakes, is taking place this Saturday and one of the favorites - for second place - is a horse named "First Dude."
Yes, that's First Dude, as in the nickname of the former First Gentleman of Alaska Todd Palin, husband of Tea Party darling and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
A big, long-striding horse, the Preakness runner-up is owned by Don Dizney

I think I hate her husband, LOL~
Yep, they’re playing up Game On Dude
Before the eighth race on Belmont Stakes Day, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was in the paddock at Belmont Park. She certainly didnt dress the part wearing capri pants, white t-shirt and black designer baseball cap. Oh, and her eyes were pretty well hidden behind some big, old sunglasses.
But, it wasnt her fault. Seems her limo driver picked her and husband Todd up at JFK Airport and then got lost for more than an hour. There was no time to get to the hotel and change so she came to the track the way she was. And that was fine with her.
No, no, typical Alaskan, Palin said. `We were a couple hours late (coming from Texas) but everyone has been so hospitable and accepting of the garb.
Palin was the guest of Marylou Whitney and her husband John Hendrickson, who used to be in politics in Alaska, where Palin used to be governor.
One of the reasons she was here was to root on the horse named First Dude, which was the nickname she had for her husband when she was governor.
Were very excited about this race, she said. Of course, we love the name and we think First Dude has a good chance to win. We found out a lot about the horse today.

She's looks perfectly fine to me, ahem
First Dude, named after former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin’s husband, Todd, is a near favorite to win Saturday’s Belmont Stakes. His odds were set at +350 or 3.5/1 for a payout potential of $35 on every $10 bet at BetUS.com.
First Dude’s trainer is confident that he can win the Belmont Stakes.
“The Belmont will be this horse’s race because he wants to go a mile and a half,” Trainer Dale Romans said, “and he’ll love the track.”
Romans’ confidence soared after his 3-year-old bay colt set the pace in the Preakness nearly three weeks ago, then managed to duel with Lookin At Lucky in the stretch before settling for second.
“You’re not going to skip a classic with a horse like this,” Romans said. “He’s a throwback kind of horse, a big rugged kind of horse, nothing bothers him, and I don’t think three weeks is going to bother him.”
Presently, the horse to beat and instilled as the official favorite is Ice Box at +300.
Hitting the track this Saturday at the Belmont Stakes is Preakness-runner up First Dudethe nickname given to Todd Palin during Sarah Palins time as Alaskas governor. His dam was aptly named Run, Sarah, Run.
Hes the 15-4 odds favorite, and trainer Dale Romans thinks hes got a shot at the win. Hes a big strong horse, I think he can handle a lot, Romans said. Hes taken everything weve ever given him and bounces right back.
Todd would make a great First Dude for the U.S.

Florida Derby winner Ice Box overcame a troubled trip with a sensational rally to finish second in the Kentucky Derby, while Fly Down was a six-length winner in the Dwyer last month at Belmont.
Preakness runner-up First Dude is the 7-2 second choice, and trainer Dale Romans believes his colt is ready for a breakthrough race.
“Ice Box is going to be tough, especially in this race, but maybe we can turn the tables,” said Romans. “You’re not going to skip a classic with a horse like this. We were waiting to go a mile and a half. He’s a throwback kind of horse, a big rugged kind of horse, nothing bothers him, and I don’t think three weeks (between races) is going to bother him.”
Ice Box will leave from the No. 6 post and be ridden by Jose Lezcano, with Fly Down and John Velazquez aboard just inside at No. 5. First Dude, with Ramon Dominguez, drew the No. 11 post.
The field from the rail out is Dave in Dixie (20-1), Spangled Star (30-1), Uptowncharlybrown (10-1), Make Music for Me (10-1), Fly Down (9-2), Ice Box (3-1), Drosselmeyer (12-1), Game On Dude (10-1), Stately Victor (15-1), Stay Put (20-1), First Dude (7-2), and Interactif (12-1).
Among the long shots to consider are Blue Grass winner Stately Victor and Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert’s Game On Dude, winner of the Lone Star Derby on May 8.
Sarah Fan UK provided a link at the beginning of this thread about First Dude and excellent pics of my future ex-wife, (in my dreams) LOL~
