A Christian news site is making headlines by claiming Ellen DeGeneres is responsible for the ratings erosion of Fox's "American Idol."
Christian Newswire director Gary McCullough says the sexual orientation of the newest "Idol" judge was the reason "Idol" ratings were down about 9% this season.
McCullough said he predicted that "Idol" ratings would drop after DeGeneres was announced as a judge and says Fox has paid the price:
"At this moment in entertainment history, network television is on a pro-homosexuality bender," McCullough wrote. "The producers of 'American Idol' chose to be a part of this push; it was a huge mistake. The consequences of this choice were a drop in market share and a reduction in advertising dollars ... it actually drives away a significant market share of parents and teens who used to watch the show together, until mom and dad decided that the subtle promotion of an 'alternate lifestyle' to their kids was not worth the entertainment trade off."
"Perhaps next we will see the pro-pedophilia group NAMBLA use its influence in Hollywood to have 'Dancing with the Stars' seat Roman Polanski as a judge," he added.
Few points:
To claim that DeGeneres is detrimental to TV ratings conflicts with the reason she was chosen for the show -- her established popularity with TV viewers via her daytime talk show and other outlets.
"Idol" ratings have been dipping steadily for the past few years. This season's "Idol" ratings drop was about the same as the previous year, when DeGeneres wasn't on the show, and were in line with network performance expectations at the start of the season.
The biggest new scripted ratings hit of the season is one of the most gay-friendly broadcast shows ever created -- Fox's "Glee," whose ratings increased after an early pivotal episode focused on a gay character.
"I can hear the bloggers loading their homophobe-blasters, but think this through with me," McCullough wrote. "If one of the judges was an abortion activist, or a political right winger -- and continued to insert comments in line with their activism -- the same criticism would be true, and the show would suffer. The advice, 'Shut up and sing!' comes to mind."
It isn’t that Ellen is gay its that she is not as crazy as Paula and is a clone of the even more boring Diguaro and the show has been steadily declining since the beginning and the winners increasingly irrelevant.
Maybe, but I think it is just a crappy show.
*Ahem* Clay Aiken, Adam Lambert anyone?
That train left the station a long time ago.
The fact also that this group was the worse group of all time on Idol, did not help either.
The reduction in talent on the show over the last several years has nothing to do with the ratings drop. Not a thingy dingy.
I think its because people are getting tired of it.
When will Hollywood or American Idol get that IT IS NOT OKAY TI BE GAY?
It’s not that she’s gay. It’s that she has no knowledge whatsoever of the music industry, music itself, or what makes someone a star.
As if there was really that much talent to begin with, you can find just as good singers at the piano bar at the local Ramada Inn as Kelly Clarkson or Taylor Hicks.
Drugged out Paula was interesting, in a watching a car crash kind of way.
Homosexuals make up less than 2% of our population and they are severly over-represented on all leftist controlled media. As soon as Ellen signed on to AI, my household’s occasional AI update stopped. Homosexuals have so many people fighting their PR war for them, that even FReerepublic has a small fan club.
I’ve never watched Idol. When Ellen was named a judge, it removed any inclinations I had to check it out. What people do in their own bedrooms is not my business, but once they start proclaiming it in public, it certainly effects my decisions.
the old anti-freeper Clown Posse was a veritable fist club.
Obama’s fault....
People are too busy fretting and keeping up with Obama’s latest BS to watch silly shows like Idol.
Ellen is “America’s lesbian.” If anything, her being on the show would help ratings, IMO.
Yes, the show is about selling records, concert tickets etc. but is that a bad thing?
Simon was good because he was honest and his was the only opinion that people really cared about.

Yeah...we know who the vast majority of daytime TV watchers are ;-)
