Mail carriers are scrambling in Scranton this spring after seven dog bite attacks—the most in recent memory. Letter carrier Lyn Sottile was bitten by a chocolate Labrador that ran through an invisible fence, bit her leg and punctured the can of mace she carries. The injury took her off the route for a week, according to local news reports.
Postal workers are victims of only some of the more than 4.7 million dog bites annually. Each year 800,000 Americans seek medical attention for dog bites; half of them children. Of those injured, 386,000 require treatment in an emergency department and about 16 die, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Children 5 to 9 years old are the most vulnerable.

To paraphrase an old joke, “Someone has to find that dog and stop him”.
GOVERNMENT employees have better health care than you in the private sector. Besides, it's not as though they are over worked and really stressed out. “Going postal” is not a luxury any of us in the private sector have.

We had a black woman delivering our mail for awhile. I had to call “Human Events” and ask them to put the paper in a white envelope because I wasn’t getting it. Suddenly I got it every week. Now the black woman is in jail for shoplifting, fraud and writing bad checks. Typical federal employee. Most of the postal workers I run across are losers. Let the dogs have at ‘em!

Excellent suggestion, Colonel. Or feel free try to carry my husband’s route. (6 or 7 miles of walking.)
What about all the postal workers who are veterans? Or all that are normal hardworking citizens? I'm sorry you've have bad experiences with mail people, but the silent majority are no better and no worse than anyone else.
I'm sure the benefits outweigh what many would love to have the time to do - get some exercise walking and the money WE PAY FOR YOU, is also impressive for the job.
I once saw a video of a TV news reporter spending a day accompanying a carrier. It made a believer out of him.

After trying for ages to get a rural postal route I've come to the conclusion
that I have to be a one-legged, lesbian, aboriginal before they'll hire me.
