“Schedule for World Cup Sees USA’s First Game on June 12 Against England”
by NESN Staff on Jun 3, 2010 9:00:05 PM

SNIPPET: “The World Cup is slated to kick off on June 11 and stretch for a month, providing fans glimpses of the best soccer players and teams worldwide.

While soccer takes a backseat to other sports in the US, it is the No. 1 sport worldwide (and is, of course, known as football outside America). The USA squad, ranked 14th in the world, will be looking for their first World Cup as their highest finish was third place in 1930.”

Wish I felt better about USA’s chances in that group. Algeria might surprise us and that would be a shame. I can see us getting out of the group but as a likely second seed our first elimination match might not be too pleasant.

I can’t see us beating England which means we’ll need a minimum of four points from the other two matches to have a chance.
