NEW YORK,- A New York woman's lawsuit against Citigroup says she was fired because bosses deemed her feminine beauty to be a distraction for male colleagues.
Debrahlee Lorenzana, 33, said in her city Supreme Court lawsuit that she was ordered not to wear turtlenecks, pencil skirts, fitted suits or heels in the workplace because the tight clothing made her body "too distracting" for male coworkers, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.
"Never did I ever show cleavage," Lorenzana said. "I like fashion, but I always dressed professionally."
"I can't help it that I have curves," she said. "And I'm not going to go eat and gain 50 or 100 pounds because my job wants me to be the same size as everyone else."
The woman's attorney, Jack Tuckner of Tuckner Sipser Weinstock & Sipser, said bosses at Citi's Rockefeller Center branch moved Lorenzana to a secluded part of the office as retaliation for her sexual harassment complaints and fired her one month later.
"All it came down to was, 'We don't want to deal with you, because you're just too good looking,'" Tuckner said.
Citigroup released a statement describing the lawsuit as "without merit."
"Citi is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and providing a respectful environment in the workplace," the statement said.
Smart move.
Woman gets fired. Realizes it is a tough market. Wants to either move into modeling or sideline as a model or wants to find a rich sugar daddy / husband.
Files a suit that she may or may not win. Slips to the press something that is so outrageous that it is sure to get attention. Add in some semi model shots and she is sure to get another job offer or modeling work or hubby.
Sir, I see that you have a roll of quarters to deposit....
whats in your wallet???
Not based on the statements. What idiot would tell a woman that you cannot work up front because you are distracting the men.
They should have just handed her the key to the vault right then.
Men do say stupid things around pretty girls.
“I don’t think the point is to marry her...”
Which shows that you don’t belong the group of men I was warning ...;-)
Perhaps it was good that everyone had separate offices or we could have spent the entire day staring at her.
My boss, who fired me from my first job when I was 21, with those exact words.
For my first real job out of college, the hiring director (a 45 year old guy) would only hire highly attractive women right out of school. He wouldn’t hire guys.
I was lucky because the guy was on vacation on the day of my interview so I was given my job offer by another manager, a woman.
On my first day of work, I found out there were 18 hot women and only 2 guys (including me) that were hired as recent college grads.
Not a bad workplace environment.
The girls weren’t the smartest or hardest-working people I ever met, but that wasn’t a major problem.
Hey just going by the picture she’s putting out there. Men are so easily distracted by a set of hooters.hahahahaha
It's actually a very smart move for her to file this lawsuit for the publicity alone.
“Bet more complaints came from jealous harpies than men.”
That was my first thought. Women in the workplace are brutal to each other. It’s good to be retired!
she never showed cleavage... so no hanging out possible. she prefers turtle necks and pencil skirts ( yes please!! )
they moved her to a secluded area due to the sexual harassment complaints she had filed. (reading comprehension FTW!)
what they should have done is fired the ones doing the harassing... but i figure they figured losing 1 would impact the business less than losing 10.
judgement: NOT GUILTY!
sentence : 50 years with sten. bailiff .. bring the defendant to florida... pleeease
... ok ok... that might be considered cruel and unusual punishment ;)
I am sorry to hear that. I hope you did something, anything about it.
I used to train my staff over, and over, and over about the stupid things that people did.
I have been guilty of saying some dumb things (they made sense to me....) but nothing like that.
I cringe thinking my daughter will have to put up with that crap.
WTF? Turtlenecks are now too sexy?
Did you see a picture from the article? I didn't see one. I'd like to see exactly what she was wearing that distracted others. If you have a link to her attire, I'd like to see it.

This is apparently the article, with pictures for which she posed, that started the discussion.
It sounds like she didn’t dress professionally and, apparently after ignoring warnings, was fired. Now she’s pursuing notoriety to make a buck.
Thank you for the link. While her pics seem tame for Hollywood, and not so much slutty as wrong for the work place, I can see your point. If her true calling was to be a clown and she showed up at work in face paint and a fake squirting flower on her lapel, I would fire her too. She obviously is in the wrong profession.
So where did the photos come from? Do Normal employees each have such photos? Who took these and they’re all too convenient for each side to have...very much appear to be staged. I predict Playboy is next.
