I lost a friend of over 20 years - my best friend actually and we saw each other through thick and thin. But she is a raving liberal and I am a Freeper - it finally got to the point where it blew up.

I also don’t discuss politics with one of my sisters and my son and I had to promise each other no politics, ever - too many horrible and sometimes mean (on his part) arguments.

Please do not take this the wrong way. Do you believe that there is something you did or failed to do that caused yourchild to turn out liberal? Your advice would be valuable to parents/future parents.

"best friend"

I had a good friend over to the house last weekend. He is a huge supporter of any Democrat and he loves Bill Maher. Among other things he said he prefers socialism to capitalism. I basically laughed at his statements knowing them to come from a very ignorant person. In the same conversation he supported the Arizona bill and agreed Al-Qaeda must be crushed. So it's not always easy to pigeon-hole people. Because I know he'd actually hate living under real socialism. He's always been jealous of people who had more they he did. But he's always had more money than me. I should ask him when he's going to start giving some of his loot.

I lost a friend of over forty years over politics. I never spoke or engaged in politics with her. She questioned one of my children once. She saw our Bush sticker on our SUV. After Bush won his second term I had called her (she lives in GB) to wish her Happy Thanksgiving and she screamed and castigated me because of my support of a Conservative. I ended the conversation, cried, then tried to explain myself in a series of emails. She eventually said that there was no reason to continue the relationship. Except for a curt note when her sister died, and a request that I leave items I had been storing for her on my porch so a friend of hers could pick them up, I have not heard from her.

People that you love can turn like a dime on politics.

I now understand why the serbs and bosnians, and the hitus and tutsis easily butchered their neighbors. There really is no such thing as COEXISTANCE
