I guess I pushed the issue in a way.
The woman is not stupid. I was not going to let it rest until that was the final word and the final verdict.
Look, I’m going to tell you this as an aging man to a young man. You obviously have a lot of emotion vested in Palin, let it go, it’s not mutual.
I was young an on fire once. I loved Ronald Reagan as a president, but Ronald Reagan didn’t love me. He didn’t have my picture on his desk, he didn’t work for me in the hopes that he might shake my hand, he didn’t write me letters of support when I had to testify in court, he didn’t even know my name.
As I got older, I realized that the relationship between a president and the citizens is a professional one, not a personal one. The go into office and make life better, worse, or fail to have an effect at all. Then they go home to their friends, and the people that they care about, and chances are you won’t be one of them.
Save your emotional attachments for those who return them. Don’t idolize celebrities, political or otherwise.
you are OhioYoung.. I am OhioOld
Learned a LONG time ago that people who are really a lot different than me religiously or politically really aren’t “friend” material.. they are acquaintances. I used to compromise, say nothing, lie, walk on eggshells to keep these “friends”.
Then an epiphany
I have now many more true friends and avoid those who are so different. You may have other things in common but unless you want a life filled with pain, you are better off early on just not getting involved. ESP for a spouse!
That is my take on things
A lot of times, the best thing to do is to state your case, then let it be. If they push it after, let them know they now your stance, even if you cannot understand theirs and you would rather let it be. I have a few very liberal friends. They know when they rant I am going to ignore them and pushing me is just going to piss me off. The only person I unfriended (both on Facebook and in real life) was a colleague who after the Arizona law passed posted his status as Viva La Raza! That was my own line and I can put up with a lot.
