The President is a personal issue. Even if he/she doesn’t know. Decisions they make will effect my family for decades to come.

I think with this post you have identified your own problem.
There is plenty of color and emotion in my life in other areas. I'm not saying this to be insulting, but I'm forming a picture of you as the guy who people say, "Oh cripes, SE is coming over. He's going to go on about Sarah Palin again." Do yourself and your wife a favor, and don't be that guy. Don't force the issue when others don't see things your way.
