A huge sinkhole has emerged in Guatemala after Tropical Storm Agatha pummeled the region. The photo released by the Guatemalan government is absolutely incredible. CNN is reporting that the sinkhole swallowed a three-story building and a house; killing a security guard.
The huge sinkhole appeared in Zone 2 of Guatemala City, and reports have said similar sinkholes may be in the process of forming.
Can you imagine the earth simply opening up and swallowing a building and a home? When you look at the width and depth of this massive sinkhole in Guatemala, it is actually quite difficult to fathom that this isn't a man made hole.
Sinkholes such as these aren't unheard of, however, and have even occurred in the United States; the more recently recorded ones in the state of Florida
It looks like a window on another world.
The word "abyss" springs to mind.

OMG. I think the gate to hell has open and his minions will soon rule the planet. Seriously, this looks scary.
I would think about moving out of that city:

Wow.

This looks much like another sinkhole I saw about two years ago, also in that part of the world. I’ll bet those kids will believe their Mom from now on about digging their way to China.
Send BP and Obama in to save the day!
It's just begging for one!
Nope, not AFAIK.
Here' a page with s'more bigguns
I’m more afraid of sinkholes than I am of hurricanes. That one is terrifying.

This will keep me up tonight.
It's just begging for one!"
Well, I told my wife to quit leaving them da@med candles lit in the bathroom!!! They didn't call me "cratering charge" in the army for no reason, ya know?
looks like a cave at the bottom on your first pic—
Winter Park borders Orlando. Today the sinkhole is filled with water and is known as Lake Rose in Winter Park.
Probably was part of an underground river, and then there could also be a possibility such river dried up many years ago and this may again be possibly an ancient filled in well.
Massive rains? Long ago dormant underground river? I know not a whole lot about the weather down there but they say it was the heaviest in history I think I read somewhere.
yeah — you probally right— kinda creepy looking
good place for the town to dump there garbage, and call the cement trucks when it gets almost full —lol
For Gods sake and ours please do tell them.
