Which new Rifle to buy? (vanity)

OK,, I have a pretty good selection of firearms, Ak47's, Bolt guns, .22's, 30-30's, shotguns, several good pistols and a gun safe. (ammo for all) But I don't have a AK74. Are there known reliable models out of the box?(the ammo is pretty cheap now)I've even heard of some of the cheaper models key-holing.

I have been told that Century builds are hit/miss, and Saiga's have that funny trigger. For under $600 bucks,, (no I don't want an AR) what model AK74 is available?

(PS,, I love AR's, but I have been told that as long as you have an Armorer, go with the AR,, if you don't,,, go with the AK)

I have 2 AR's and have never had a problem with them. If you're going with an AK, you can't go wrong with Arsenal.

I haven’t got any experience with AKs; my next purchase is probably going to be the Mosin Nagant [which is Russian surplus].

The $600 limit is a bit of a limiter from the [admittedly vague] memories I have of the prices.

If money weren’t much of an issue I’d suggest the PS-90; it’s a fun little gun the Belgians made for their tank crews. [The PS-90 has no full-auto, which the P-90 does.]

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

The 5.56 (cal .223) round is obviously smaller and offers less muzzle velocity, but its trajectory is far flatter than that of the larger, more powerful 7.62x51 as fired from an AK

AK's fire either 7.62x39 or 5.45x39. The AK-74 does the latter. Ballistics very similar to 5.56x45.

Muzzle velocity of 7.62x39 is 2,450 f/s with a 123 grn bullet. Muzzle velocity of 7.62x51 is around 2700 fps with a 147 grn bullet or (2580 fps with a 175 grn bullet) . 5.56x45 has muzzle velocity of 3025 fps with a 62 grn bullet. 5.45x39 has a muzzle velocity of about 2940 fps with a 60 grn bullet.

The top one in the pic is a 1917 M95 Steyr carbine in 8x56r. That’ll give some grief to a shoulder with out a recoil pad!
