OK,, I have a pretty good selection of firearms, Ak47's, Bolt guns, .22's, 30-30's, shotguns, several good pistols and a gun safe. (ammo for all) But I don't have a AK74. Are there known reliable models out of the box?(the ammo is pretty cheap now)I've even heard of some of the cheaper models key-holing.
I have been told that Century builds are hit/miss, and Saiga's have that funny trigger. For under $600 bucks,, (no I don't want an AR) what model AK74 is available?
(PS,, I love AR's, but I have been told that as long as you have an Armorer, go with the AR,, if you don't,,, go with the AK)
See #100
Heyup!
I got mine for $1,600 after coming back from deployment and, incidentally, just before the Obama price-run on all things firearm.
And you’re right, it is nice.
It’d probably be my weapon of choice on a mob/riot-type situation; though there is the compelling allure of a 12ga shotgun loaded with slugs and/or 000 shot....
The Mauser and the Nagant remind of one of the shooting games with my son out in the woods. {he's gonna make sergeant this year!}
After a few rounds of pie-plate target practice, we would find a hackberry tree with sufficient diameter to conceal the plate and fasten it to the far side of the tree trunk. The "trick" was to guess the center of the paper plate and hit it by shooting through the tree. {no problem at all for yesterday's battle rifles}
I was in the military, but never assigned to Europe.
If I was, I might’ve been able to get a P-90 instead of a PS-90.
What I find disturbing, however, is the lack of freedom that one experiences here in the US; there is a law for EVERYTHING, even laws which shouldn’t exist. For example, my state has a ‘No Firearms on University Campuses’ statute, despite the first sentence in the section of the State Constitution prohibiting any law from “abridging the right of the Citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense, [...]”
Goto http://www.warriortalk.com they love AK’s and Glocks.
Read the AK section.
Goto http://www.rifledynamics.com they build the best AK’s
you are very right my friend,,, but my Remington 700 can go way,(WAY) past the accuracy of an AK, if I want accuracy,, he will be the guy,, that being said,, I want an AK74 because the ammo is currently cheap... thanks for the input.
The Steyr ammo is expensive whether new or surplus. Not much surplus left. Big5 sports stores still have mosins on sale for $99 dollars on sale (on sale this week actually) , except for laminate stocks. And 7.62x54r is still pretty cheap.
Kinda of a "Alice in Wonder Land" moment... I know the feeling.......
The U.S. Government doesn't abide by its own laws, so neither should we.
It's simple, fight or die.
I'm willing and trained to defend myself, with firearms.
If you've any time in the military, so are you. Don't trust the government.
NEVER TRUST THE GOVERNMENT.

Funny you should mention that; I recently wrote up an article pointing out how it seems to be:

{Though I went with a more Screwtape feel than Alice in Wonderland.}
>When all hell breaks loose, you’d better be prepared.
No kidding. I’ve squirreled away ammo for my guns; perhaps not as much as I’d like but what I can afford. {And my father questions, somewhat accusingly, my decisions to open carry... or even own firearms.}
>The U.S. Government doesn’t abide by its own laws, so neither should we.
Indeed, the way I see it is that they are taking my money via taxes for programs I will never see a dime from; the two exceptions are the education assistance & medication assistance which I can get for being in the army.
Furthermore, there is something fundamentally *WRONG* when doing detainee ops the grunts observe/feel/”psychically sense” more malevolence from their own command than the majority of the detainees they’re guarding. {I was detainee ops overseas.}
I think that my experience overseas sensitized me to it.
And while I am certainly less-comfortable/more-paranoid than when I went over it may not be a bad thing, considering all the crap that’s been going on. (Especially recently.)

See my reply to 2aberro and read the posted link; I think you’ll see just how much I trust the government...
>Elian Gonzalez Seized From His Miami Home
Mentioned in Constitutional Chaos, creepy how violence was authorized despite legal injunction.
>Waco
Something struck me about Waco as I was reading about it from the “ATF are *BAD*” crowd {which I’m now a part of; we repealed the 18th Amendment which means that the Federal Government has no authority to regulate/enforce alcohol... and the 2nd Amendment prohibits their actions on guns... and tobacco has NEVER had a Constitutional Amendment against it.}
>Ruby Ridge 1 of 20.
Ruby Ridge... I didn’t hear about that until pretty recently, about two years ago, and the more I hear about it the more it stinks.
>NEVER TRUST THE GOVERNMENT.
No shit.
I used to think that maybe the “good old boy” system was more restricted to the National Guard; but the more I look the more it seems all-pervasive in government. (And I especially HATE the “good old boy” portion where justice is applied selectively and not uniformly; the sort of “it’s wrong when we say it’s wrong” attitude.)
(I’ll check out those links now.)
while your buying, could you pick me up a fully auto micro uzi? my birthday is coming up in june and i really want one of those babies. ;)
I have 2 S&W AR 15s that use the 5.45x39 round and they function great using the russian mil surp. However they dont do well with anything that is non-corrosive...like silver bear. Higher grain weights over 60 gr. I believe is also a problem in these ARs. Which is actually fine with me cause they eat the crap out of the cheap stuff.
The best survivalists are the ones that go unnoticed.
SO ... getting back to the question "Which new Rifle to buy?" with a minor diversion,
might depend on which one you got the most experience pulling the trigger on.
It also depends on how much ammo and what kind of ammo you got.
But if all hell breaks loose, it might depend on what you can make yourself.
First thoughts, with me a Remington 700 with a sniper length barrel might be best.
And if money ISN'T a problem, then I recommend Windrunner Multi-Caliber
Just remember, one man's suggested best weapon may NOT be the best weapon for you.
“Government, like fire, is a dangerous servant and a fearful master”. George Washington
The Book of Daniel, Chapter 7 speaks of "horns".
If you read on the Bible interprets itself.
Now where am I going with this?
Well, let's just say that kingdoms, or governments not influenced by God, are evil by their very nature.
SO, I say again,
Ah, true that one suggestion isn’t the be-all & end-all of the debate.
The windrunner does look fascinating... but, like you said, price is constrained... which the Remington addresses. For even more price-constrained people the Mosin Nagant can be had [w/ bayonet] for less than $100.
>But if all hell breaks loose, it might depend on what you can make yourself.
Another thing to consider is eyesight; I’m fairly nearsighted w/o glasses [enough that my driver’s license says ‘corrective lenses’ but not so bad that I can’t drive w/o them if needed] and so that can limit your operational ranges as well. {I.E. if you wear glasses and shit hits the fan that hard, you might not be able to repair them should they be damaged... Also, contact lenses are NOT advisable for use in the field.}
Reading your link, http://www.cog-ff.com/whowhatbeast.html it strikes me that Greece’s debt problem could be considered a “deadly wound” [perhaps to the EU] especially if things seem to get rougher there...
