I dont watch TV, but I own a few series on DVD that I watch in order to avoid commercials and to watch on my own time.
Im looking for something that doesnt insult my spiritual or political (Christian Conservative) beliefs. And I dont want comedies that exist on juvenile sexual innuendoes.
I love and own the first five seasons of LOST and THE OFFICE. I have the first two seasons of 24, but quit when I saw that the producers are too cowardly to depict Muslim terrorists not backed by white corporate types as the bad guys. I also have BAND OF BROTHERS and the first 10 seasons of THE SIMPSONS.
I was thinking of getting the first season of SCRUBS except Im uncomfortable watching with my 16 year old daughter because of the frequent sexual situations.
I heard good things about CHUCK.
Any suggestions for a series I can get into?
Yep another great show.
I admit that NBC's pilot advertising roped me in with the beautiful blonde, but we (the wife & I) have stayed with the show because it's fun and the characters are likeable.
If you've got middle-school aged kids or older, it's a fairly safe show to share with them.
Andy Griffith Show - not a series in the modern sense, but THE best television EVER!
If you go there, then you also go for ‘Sharpe’. Made by the Irish in Hungary for the Brits, but I found it quite fun. Very low-budget. Stars Sean Bean, very effective as Sharpe.
I haven’t read through the thread yet but I’ll suggest Criminal Minds if it hasn’t been suggested already. I started watching it after its producer published an editorial at Big Hollywood in opposition to Hollywood’s support of Roman Polanski.
It’s a good show with some interesting characters.
I also like Bones but they do take the occasional swipe at conservatives.
Now to read the thread... I’m looking for new things, too!
“doesnt insult my spiritual or political (Christian Conservative) beliefs” I guess that Benny Hill is out of the question huh...
http://www.pbs.org/theblues/aboutfilms/eastwood.html try this link and see all of the episodes about the blues down the left hand side, each directed by a different director.
Red Dwarf, a BBC scifi comedy, the special effect are pretty bad but the story line is hilarious.
Another vote for Burn Notice. BEST Tv show, period.
Catherine Bell.
Katherine Ross was in The Graduate and Butch Cassidy.

No sexual innuendoes ? You might stick to religious programming. Otherwise, might try “Little House on the Prairie.” The only innuendo they have in that was in season three when Mr. Oleson brought up a donkey to have relations with Mrs. Oleson on their anniversary since he was tired of servicing the old witch. She was really enjoying it until she turned around when it let out a “Hee Haw”, she screamed for Nels and went running out into the street only to discover the whole town was there, all in on the joke and howling in gales of laughter. She was quite upset, but decided to keep the donkey. Ah, good times. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
I’ll second your John Adams and throw in Mad Men if the adultry and drinking are not too much for the poster.
“Wings” has always been one of my favorite sitcoms.
If you like spy shows, The Sandbaggers is a little known gem:

And Tinker,Tailor,Soldier,Spy was quite good:

I recommend Stargate SG-1. Sci-fi that has a great ensemble cast, doesn’t take itself too seriously, and is overtly pro-U.S.-military. There are ten seasons. If you decide to try it out, I strongly recommend obtaining the stand-alone DVD called ‘Children of the Gods’ and watching that INSTEAD of the pilot episode included in the season 1 DVDs — they tightened it up, took out some pointless nudity and made it consistent with the rest of the series.
Oh, and the Bob Newhart show (with Suzanne Pleshette).
I can’t watch it any longer, not since the ad for Obama Andy Griffith did with Ron Howard in 2008.
