Lost wallet finds way back to barber

DEARBORN, Mich.- A Michigan barber who lost his wallet after driving off with it on the roof of his car says it was returned -- by a man whose hair he often cut.

Michael Mikulonis of Dearborn inadvertently left the wallet on the roof on his car as he drove his wife Mary Beth to a dress fitting, and did not realize it was missing until the couple arrived home, The Detroit News reported Sunday.

Thinking it might have slipped under the seat, Mikulonis asked Mary Beth to go in the house to get a flashlight. She returned with a cordless phone instead, with a call from someone who had found the wallet in the middle of a local street.

The man had looked at the driver's license in the wallet and said to himself, "Hey, that's my barber!"

Fifteen minutes later he was at Mikulonis' house with the wallet. The barber thanked him and the man drove off, the newspaper said.

Mikulonis says he only knows the man as Steve, about 50, dark hair and beard, likes a businessman's cut.

He hasn't been to the barbershop since that night, Mikulonis said, but when he does, there's a gift certificate to a local restaurant waiting for him. And yes, the haircut will be on the house

How many people would return a lost wallet?

Many more than you perhaps would think.

God Bless America!

Nice story.

When we lived in Minnesota, my son and I went out on Prior Lake in our fishing boat just as the ice was going out in March. In a floating chunk of ice and snow, we saw a wallet lost from the previous winter’s snowmobiling.
I called the owner and he couldn’t believe we’d found it...

I'm with you, although I'd guess there is is difference in the percentage of conservatives with respect for the concept of "other people's money" and the percentage of liberals.

I did this exact same thing years ago. An older lady found my stuff on the street, found my number, and called me. When I went to retrieve the wallett, I brought her a bouquet of flowers. She was very appreciative. As was I.

My wife and i were talking about this the other night. She pretty much summed it up: Your answer to the question about whether or not someone would return a lost wallet says more about YOU than it does about someone else.

Personally, while I think people as a group are usually jerks, individuals—all over the world—tend to be decent people that would try to get your stuff back to you.

How many people would return a lost wallet?

Almost half, according to this British study.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/article6681923.ece

The most critical factor in whether the wallet was returned was a photo. An amazing 88% of the wallets with a photo of a cute baby were returned.

The story leaves out a lot of interesting details: was money returned and how much, did the rate of return vary by neighborhood, etc.?

He loses his wallet and sends his wife out to the car to look for it. In the dark with a flashlight yet.

“The most critical factor in whether the wallet was returned was a photo.”

Certainly an interesting study, but my guess is that if this were replicated in the U.S., the return rate would be far higher among Republicans than Democrats. At the lower end of the SES scale, I think Dems are more inclined than Republicans to have an “entitlement” mentality.

At the upper end of the income scale, I think there’s far less respect for property rights among Dems and a concomitant feeling that the end justifies the means. So long as your wallet’s unintended Dem recipient gives something to charity every year (however little), I believe they will find a way to rationalize keeping your wallet and its contents.

Maybe he was this barber:

The Haircut

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut.

After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you , I’ m doing community service this week.’ The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you , I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop.

The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I can not accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.

The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.

POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS NEED TO BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON!

That was my guess too. Liberals live off other people's money and do not waste any opportunity to help themselves to such money.
