I am blessed with a wide array of personality defects, such as an overinflated sense of self importance, an incredible lack of attention to detail and general belligerence.
However, the personality disorder that takes the cake is my argumentativeness. My need to start and win arguments is pathological. And I'm one of those types who will not allow reason, common decency or the World Wide Web come between me and a loud and violent debate. As a result, I'm drawn to like-minded people who love a good old scrap.
This thought was sparked off by an incident a couple of weeks ago. A friend of mine, Siyabonga, sent me an arbitrary sms containing a few "facts" about the hippo. These facts were along the lines of "Did you know that the hippo can outrun Usain Bolt; its skin is impregnable to snake bites, and it kills more humans annually than any of the other Big Five?"
I went to Ngorongoro Crater National Park in Tanzania a number of years back and while there we encountered a rhino (which,I was told, was rare even back then). The guide told us that we couldn't get any closer than about 500 yards because rhinos are fast, they *will* charge a Land Rover and if they manage to catch it the rhino "wins".
I used to be a zookeeper. One of my favorite things was to watch our zebra torment one of the rhinos. He would come up behind the rhino and bite him on the posterior. The rhino would then turn around while the zebra patiently waited on him. It was like an 18 wheeler turning around.
The zebra would spin around and kick the rhino in the mouth. Then he’d take off running. The lumbering rhino would start chasing the zebra and would eventually pick up speed. The zebra would step aside like in a cartoon and watch the rhino speed on by, apparently having forgotten what he was mad about.
When the rhino stopped, the process would start all over again.
Any news on the dog?
I missed the ears thing because I was focused on those beady eyes bearing down on the subject.
