I am looking for a holographic sight for my flattop AR. I have looked at the Aimpoint and the EOTech sights and everyone says they are the cream of the crop. Problem is that $500 for a holo sight is a bit much. Can anyone suggest a rugged, reliable, good quality holo sight for a decent price?
You bringing that to the shoot?
Yup
Thanks for the info. I have a green laser with a momentary switch on an AR clone. I’ve been thinking about an IR laser for use with night vision...
Maybe I should rethink it.
Sure, show me something that isn’t available.
I don’t know the make of his green laser. I’ll ask him. The idea is to just put it on before bang, obviously.
That’s how I feel too. I just have a red laser mounted on a rail under my barrel, forward. Keeps it from getting banged around when the rifle is on its side. I’d like to try a green, but for now can’t see the giant advantage, at least for me. I can’t see needing to use it in dark-dark at 300 yards. And in twilight or low light there is the EOTech on top.
I don’t knock the cheap sights on CTD, I just don’t have enough knowledge of them to know the good from the bad. In general, I’d trust the $150 sights more than the $29 ones. But if there’s a great sight out there for cheap, I’d buy some just to have them for a rainy day.
That's not my experience. Maybe our eyes experience the EOTech differently, or you got a bad sight.
Yes, ACOGs are great, if you will pay more for a sight than a rifle. I'd rather have another rifle, and thereby another rifleman in my post SHTF pickup squad.
Where can you (as a civvie) acquire an IR LAD?
As far as I know, the Bushnell branded ones are just lighter duty EOTechs made by EOTech. Are you saying they're now going to make their own instead?
I have a cheap site mark on my 10/22 and it seems to be very rugged. I am beginning to really like it. It will also fit my Mk 3 hunter (Ruger) and my mini 14.
That isn’t my experience either. If I leave it at “11” and then try to use it in low light situations that still isn’t the case.
I'm not even sure why the EOTech has a brightness selection in the first place. Anything around half-brightness is useless outdoors on a sunny day.
It's not just me saying this; there are plenty of soldiers serving in Iraq/Afghanistan on forums all over the web who can't say that they're fond of the EOTech compared to an Aimpoint or ACOG.
Now, I don't hate my EOTech even after having to send it back to be replaced... but I should have understood it was probably best designed for SWAT teams who kick down doors at meth labs and crack houses at 4:30am.
Primary Arms Micro Dot (Gen 2)
Micro Dot with Removable Base.(Larue knockoff)
■ Ultra sharp 4 MOA dot ■ Uses 1 CR2032 battery (included) ■ 11 brightness settings. Visible in bright sunlight ■ The front glass is coated and angled to prevent glare ■ Waterproof ■ One year warranty ■ Bikini covers included ■ Only weighs 4oz ■ Optional riser pictured allows for a lower 1/3 cowitness on flat top AR-15/M-16 ■ Will fit risers designed for the Aimpoint T1, but because of the position of the LED you may not be able to cowitness.
Basically it is a knock-off of an Aimpoint Micro T-1.
There is a very good review of it at LightFighter in the optics section. LINK (not sure if you can see that without registering)
I would not want it for serious work, but it should be good for the range.
I run an Aimpoint Micro T-1 and love it. WITH the 50,000 hour battery life, I never turn the thing off, so it is ready to rock 24/7.
