A 67-year-old Yuba City woman was shot and killed by officers when she pointed a shotgun at them and refused to put it down, Yuba City police said Friday.

A U.S. Census worker "had been confronted by residents who pointed a firearm at the worker and said they would not answer any questions and closed the door," said police spokeswoman Shawna Pavey.
When two male officers arrived, 51-year-old Lionel Craig Patterson answered the door, armed with a handgun, police said. "As officers were dealing with the male, a female approached the door with a shotgun and ignored officers' orders to release the weapon. As the female advanced on officers, she continued to point the shotgun at officers in a threatening manner and the two officers fired their service weapons, hitting the female," the police report said.

Why is a census ‘worker’ knocking on doors at 9pm?
Because you didn't read the article.
An autopsy Friday showed she died of “multiple gunshot wounds,” said Sutter County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Brenda Baker.
Actually I did this time but thanks for making the assumption.
“Officers went to the Mariner Loop home after receiving a call at 9:04 p.m. about weapons being brandished, according to a police incident log.”
Of course the brown shirt said it was earlier. I don’t believe it took over an hour for them to report it to the police.
Yeah, but this isn’t something worth dying over. A census SS officer came to our home to ask about our neighbors while I was at work and my wife sent her away. No guns were involved and my wife still lives.
I agree that the time of the census-worker visit is in question.
First, the worker claims it was 7:25, but then why the delay in calling the police?
Are we to believe it takes that long to work up the chain of command? (OK, this is a gov't agency, I believe it)
But isn't there a neighbor in the article who claims the census people have come after dark?
That could be either true or elderly residents confused about when it is actually dark.
There are Freepers on other threads (and this one) leaping to the conclusion that it was “after dark” ~ Today sunset in Yuba City, CA will occur at 8:19PM. Twilight will last another hour. It was no more than 5 minutes earlier the DAY the woman invited the police to shoot her.
“Yeah, but this isnt something worth dying over”
No its not. I’d imagine they initially thought it was something else.
This is also a government agency after 7 PM with the typical first level or two or three of management being temporary hires.
Still a shame. I didn’t think carrying a firearm in your own home was a crime.
There will certainly be cell-phone records of when those calls up the chain of command were made.
It’s amazing Granny Clampett lived as long as she did.
Yeah she must have been an idiot trying to protect her home and all.
yer a class act
Granny was the one pointing her shotgun at everybody in Beverly Hills.
class act I say
As one who refers to unknown census workers as ‘brown shirts’ you should know!
Ahhh! Another voter to add to the Democrat party registration.
“As one who refers to unknown census workers as brown shirts you should know!”
Well what do you call a govt worker who comes asking for private information at 9pm at night?
Surprising that you don’t have a problem with the death of a mother, grandmother and wife but you object to an accurate label of a govt agent collecting peoples private information.
If she was counted before she was shot, does she count?
