LAKE FOREST -- A woman in Lake Forest shot her neighbor's dog after the animal attacked her 6-year-old daughter, authorities said.
The attack happened just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday ...
A 14-year-old boy heard screams and saw a brown and white boxer grab his 6-year-old sister's shoulder while she was playing on the driveway with her 3-year-old sister.
The boy ran to the driveway and tried to pull his sister away from the animal, but the dog then bit the girl seven times on the leg, head, shoulder and face, authorities said.
The girl's mother, Jennifer Cooper, was on the porch with her 1-year-old child and saw the dog bite her daughter. She said she tried to get the children in the house and scare the dog away.
She told police the dog tried to lunge at the youngest child, and she then went inside the home, got a Glock pistol and shot the dog in the throat.
"It could have been much worse," Cooper told KTLA. "I could be at the E.R. right now with a child that's been severely mauled or even dead."

‘Neighbors say this particular dog roams the area unleashed and the owner is unknown.”
Then why does the headline say “Shoots neighbor’s dog”?
Something doesn’t add up, here.
Most people do not take the time to research dog behavior, and then exercise and train their dogs properly.
Most people who love dogs never let dogs and children alone, unsupervised. The children can do really stupid things to dogs, which result in defensive bites and attacks, after the screaming and running starts.
All dogs should be confined if they are not out being supervised, exercised, or trained.
If people do not want to deal with all that, then I suggest a goldfish.
I had always been told that Staffordshire Terriers are one of the best family dogs. Is this a different breed or am I misinformed?
Inspector Clouseau, is that you?
Why would you be surprised?
Haven’t you seen the current “breed hit list”?

Shoot the dog; hang the owner.
I never hear of Goldies or Poodles doing this.
You’re going to be a smart ass because I detest contradictory statements?
Seeking the real -truth- of any incident is worthy of sarcasm?
Pardon *me* for looking for honesty where there seems to be none.
Why does he have a dishwasher in his trunk?
Then you’re not listening.
They -have-.
When one of the “farm” dogs bit my father, he planted a
mattock he happened to be carrying right in the top of it’s head, we threw the carcass out in the lowgrounds but them my cousin and I had to go back down and chop the head off to carry to the county pathology dept.
Ah the memories of childhood.
Here.
Play with this for a while.

Nope. The police already said that it was self-defense and no charges.
Interestingly, she had already wrestled her child away from the dog, hustled all 3 of her kids into the house, then went to a lock-box to get her Glock. She told the police and the news people, she was fearful for the other children and people on the street so went back out and shot it. Saw the interview, she's one together Mom. Lives just a few miles from me.
Staffordshire Terriers are considered a cousin to the pit bull and often mistaken for them. They are a bit more sleek and not so squat, but still have that “block head”and are amazingly high energy. I have a picture of mine on my profile.
If it was my kid, that would be one dead dog. Not sure what I would do to it’s masters.
A boxer? I’m thinking this might be a mistake.
I agree! I like boxers, just as I like pitbulls, but I see alot of the same mistakes being made by owners. I don’t put up with behaviors that most people are fine with, just because I’m paranoid. :-)
That’s strange, because Boxers look more imposing than pit bulls, in my opinion. I didn’t realize they were on the Top Ten list already.
