Nearly 1 million General Electric coffee makers sold at Walmart are being recalled after dozens of reports of overheating, smoking, burning and fires.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recall Thursday, said Walmart has received 83 complaints about the GE-branded coffee maker, including three reports of minor burns to consumers' bodies.
The reports of property damage include a significant kitchen fire and damage to countertops, cabinets and a wall, said the CPSC.
The recall involves about 900,000 GE 12-cup digital coffee makers sold exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide.
The coffee makers, with the GE logo printed on the base, were sold in white or black from March 2008 through January of this year. The model numbers involved are 169164 and 169165.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using these coffee makers and return them to any Walmart for a full refund.

we’re still using the coffee maker we got as a wedding gift 15 years ago...
Do they still design nuclear power plants?
But coffee and smokes go together like two peas in a pod. What’s a little extra smoke and fire to make a smoker’s day?
So it makes coffee that tastes like Starbucks?
This report from the GAO doesn’t mention any names but I found it interesting that the EPA and DOE managed to miss the crap they did. (A gas powered alarm clock got an energystar rating) Its an interesting report anyway and I can’t help but wonder how many of these products were Obama friendly GE products.
Pdf file of the GAO report on the energystar scam. Looks like the EPA and DOE were the ones screwing this up.

Good thing we’ve been boycotting them forever, lol.
I do not think the manufacturer in question is GE or a Chinese supplier to GE. GE sold their small appliance unit to Black & Decker in the late 1980s or early 90’s. B&D in turn offloaded it shortly thereafter to a Miami based company (Aplica - now called something else.)
I suspect the subject coffee maker is from a small appliance company who contracts with a manufacturer in China and licenses the name GE.
If it’s China Made
It will China Fade
They dilute quality until the product
is barely functional, but able to pass
a visual inspection.
Buy American or don’t buy at all!
Reason why I unplug everything when not in use or use a strip with an off switch.
GE.......we bring evil to life!
I have never liked GE products.
I never buy anything made by GE. The last thing I bought was a CB radio that quit working a month or two after the 1 yr. warranty ran out. Even their light bulbs are junk.
I guess that coffee maker didn’t get its UL rating this time around! Or did it?
Wow!! I got that model here in my house it is going back to Wallyworld today. I never liked it anyway. I have hated GE ever since they fired Ronnie as there spokesman.
