Condemned pit bull returning to death row

(05-14) 16:08 PDT RENO -- The condemned pit bull that was sprung from the Alameda animal shelter, allegedly by its owners, has been found in Reno and will be euthanized next week, authorities said Friday.

Max, a 3-year-old, 70-pound red nose pit bull, was located at a Reno motel Thursday night and was taken to a local shelter. An Alameda animal control officer will drive to Reno on Monday to retrieve Max, after which the dog will be destroyed, said Alameda police Sgt. Jill Ottaviato.

An Alameda County Superior Court commissioner ordered Max destroyed Tuesday. The dog was labeled dangerous because he bit a veterinary technician in Oakland and a friend of Cochran and Perry at the couple's home at the Alameda Islander Motel.

Alameda animal-control officials were ready to euthanize Max shortly after Commissioner Thomas Rasch issued his ruling Tuesday. Rasch, however, agreed to allow Cochran and Perry to say their goodbyes at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

But after the hearing, police believe, Cochran bought a set of bolt cutters, setting into motion a plan he had allegedly hatched with Perry to break into the shelter on Fortmann Way and steal Max. The pit bull vanished from his locked kennel sometime between 4:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The couple's Ford F-150 pickup truck was seen on surveillance video taken outside the animal shelter the morning of the break-in, said Deputy District Attorney Mark McCannon of Alameda County.

It's the lower one, right? His ears are in that position to protect them. He knows there's going to be a fight, because he's about to start it.

Anyone that thinks a dog is evil is an irrational kook
and your appeal to emotion only confirms that.

Please copy in the specific parts of the article that say what you wrote, particularly that part that went: animal control professionals, vets and others testifying that it was a danger and would attack again. Good luck with that - it's not there.

Someone asked me to fill in the details from other stories I had read. You can do the same. It is not a difficult google search.

Just type in Alemda pit bull and you should have the confirmation you say you need.

The court records should also be available if you would like to see the exact details of the testimony presented. Or you can call the DA's office. I'm sure they will confirm for you.

Hope that helps with your inquiry.

My appeal is to a little girl that had her face horribly scared. Nothing emotional about facts

“and God bless you...the first female dog person with some sense about it”

That surprises me.

One of the main reasons vets [and others] advocate neutering males is to STOP ‘aggression issues’.
[aka “drive”]

What good is a “non-aggressive/low drive” working dog?

The efficiency and success of *any* -working- dog is directionally proportionate to their drive.

Take away the main source of their drive and you got pretty much nothin’ left.

The first 2 Dobes I had were intact.
#1 was pretty mellow but would put himself between me and what he perceived as a threat.
#2 was younger and sharper and would “take out” the threat, if necessary.

All of the others between those 2 and the one I have now were rescues and therefore, had to be neutered.

There was only one rescue male I felt *fairly* safe “going anywhere” with but I wouldn’t have bet my *life* on him.
[he was neutered after having fully matured and was what is termed a good “threat dog” but I really don’t know if he would/could have backed up his threat posture.]
Luckily, I never had to find out, either way.

The one bitch I rescued was spayed and she was a pistol whose drive surprised even me.
The neutered male I had at the same time simply acted as her noisy but fairly innocuous back-up.

The one I have now is Euro and he fell out of the womb full of drive.

My vet’s already nagged me about neutering him and I’ve firmly said that card was -off- the table.

Look at the Marine Corps Devil Dogs photo I posted and tell me what you see every dog still swinging...:)

[I could have just as easily said “I prefer my men *and* my dogs to have balls].....LOL

They do not.

They become more “feminized”.

Who would you rather fight in a bar?

Gene Simmons or one of the medieval castrati?....LOL
