IDAHO FALLS - An Idaho soldier convicted of murder in Iraq is seeking a plan for parole.
25-year-old Evan Vela was convicted in Bagdhad back in February 2008. A clemency hearing is scheduled for June 3rd, to hear the prison's recommendations for clemency. However, the Army Board in Arlington Virginia asked Vela's attorney to submit a parole plan for him.
Vela's father explained to me his son was only following orders. He was told, in 2007, while under a mission in Iraq, to kill an Iraqi civilian. So he did.
Now he is convicted of murder; however, with the Army Board's request for a parole plan, his family has hope to see him soon.
This was unexpected for Vela's family. Vela's father needs the public's help to get his son on parole. They need a business to offer to hire him, they need a landlord to offer a place for him and his family to live.
And they need letters of support to submit in the parole plan.

This is a surprise. Evan’s scheduled Parole hearing is in August. They are asking for a plan several months ahead.
