Nobody interested in THE PREAKNESS??

All our usual Triple Crown chat seems to have evaporated. Today is the Second Leg of the TC. A field of 12 goes postward at Pimlico today for the Preakness Stakes.

Super Saver doesn't have to be on the rail or far back to win. Check out his past races. He's quick enough to be in front if there is no other pace. And remember, Borel won this race last year.

Pleasant Prince ran nearly the same race as Ice Box in the Florida Derby, and in fact had his head in front at one point in the stretch, but was outgamed a mere nose at the end. But for that, Pleasant Prince would have had the earnings to run in the Kentucky Derby, and would NOT have run in the Blue Grass Stakes or the Derby Trial.

Dig into the past performances of a lot of the others. Some were a lot better at 2, some are getting attention only because of who trains them. Look at what they have actually done in their last 3 starts--don't expect sudden improvements.

Physically, Pimlico is set up much like Churchill. The "sharper turns" are just mythology.

I was AMAZed no live thread for the Derby

Sorry... I am REQUIRED to attend the Oaks and Derby... entertaining customers. :-) It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it.

I liked Super Saver in the Derby... and, hit the exacta in with Ice Box. Missed the tri though, as I didn't like Paddy...

Today, I like Lucky with a new driver.... I have Super Saver and Jackson Bend in second... and, a couple more thrown in for third.

I survived the Preakness infield in 1989. It’s one of those things that I’m glad I did once, and just as glad that I’ll never do again. Tens of thousands of sloppy-drunk guys screaming at any woman in sight to take their clothes off, fighting in the porta-johns, running the pre-race band off the stage in a shower of beer bottles and cans, and generally acting about like you’d expect tens of thousands of sloppy-drunk guys to act.

Oh yeah, and I think I saw horses for maybe two seconds out of the entire 11-race day.

SS looks good, especially with the little I know about this year's field. I was so busy with things, moving, kids and grand kids...all the usual suspects...I didn't have a chance to get up to speed this season.

Luckily I don't have to be at work until 7 so I >might< get a chance to watch and follow the thread live.

First thing this morning though my oldest son's comode started leaking. Did the best I could for temp fix. Tomorrow we replace the whole dang thing.

Next I went to the bank machine and managed to let it take my card because I forgot to take it out.

Then I went to our old house to cut the grass. Of course even after an hour I couldn't get a lawn mower running.

Finally we packed some more stuff up and brought it to our new place.

It's been a busy day, LOL! But I still plan on watching!

WOW! I got a lot more response to this than I thought:
the usual Horseracing posters seem to be absent this year, especially gate2wire.....don’t know why.
I too love the Preakness, but with its officially limitied
field (no more than 13) it’s NEVER going to yield bigger payoffs than the Derby, which had 20 this year.
I am looking for a fresh horse or two to round out the
Superfecta, which would make it a payoff worth wagering for.
I do think there’s a good chance a speedy sprinter like
Caracortado could win it wire to wire. The thing about bold
early speed (maybe bold AND stupid, depending on how it ends up) is that an unexpectedly swift pace tends to confound the other horses, if not their jockeys; I have seen this, (or what I imagine to be this phenomenon) thousands of times over 3o years of watching races.
I will be making a win bet therefore, the size depending on the odds, on Caracortado. I bought my wife two one dollar
tickets as a belated Mother’s Day gift, and put them into special Mother’s Day envelopes my local OTB (Nanuet NY) still had hanging around from the NY Lottery machines, from last week. ONE of them, for her, was 7-8-2-1, which are the numbers that ALMOST won me what woulda been a $50,000+
superfecta, in the 2007 Derby, when another longie , the #5,
imawildandcrazyguy, at 29-1, beat out my Sedgefield , at exactly TWICE those odds, literally, in the last stride, at the wire. The 7-8-2-5 super for that Derby paid $29,000.
This one won’t pay as much, the 7 and 8 will be the faves.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL. I’m on my way to OTB.

That was ICE BOX, and he was only one among many Derby runners who will not run in the Preakness.

I’m with the Irish on this one — Paddy and Dublin — as well as the Brooklyn in YaWanna .... well, maybe the Brooklyn Irish would encompass all three :)

Thank you. Between the time I asked the question and your response, I looked it up and saw that he is slated to run in the Belmont.

I just found the coverage on NBC cable. For a bit there I thought it wasn't going to be covered.

Probably my cable challaged self...sigh. I hardly ever watch TV.

76 degress...track looks good.
