The horse laugh is that Tribune Media Services syndicates the strip, but it doesn’t run in the Chicago Tribune.

If you can’t sell the strip to your own newspaper, how are you going to get other papers to run it?

Interesting Wiki Article. 'Twould appear that Annie's author was once deemed too critical of Saint Franklin D. Roosevelt and tossed from a newspaper. And both The Nation and The New Republic approved of it, preferring their President to inconvenient artistic freedom. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.
