But Mother's Day celebrates a huge lie about the value of women: that mothers are superior beings, that they have done more with their lives and chosen a more difficult path. Ha! Every woman's path is difficult, and many mothers were as equipped to raise children as wire monkey mothers. I say that without judgment: It is, sadly, true. An unhealthy mother's love is withering.

Anne,
I hate your birthday because it’s not about me.
Obviously this person ignores Father’s Day. ‘nough said.
Yep. Another bitter leftist. Imagine that.
LOL!! My mother used to call these mumus.
“Started out as a Hallmark Card reason to sell more cards.”
No, not really, but sorta yes too.
But, so what?
Like the Brady Bunch and a lot of other things these innocuous holidays really seem to send the leftist into existential angst.
Every day should be mother’s day, OK?
If you don’t have a mom (anymore, obviously everyone has a mom) or you don’t like your mom, well I’m sorry, but try and carry on.
No, of course life is not like the Brady Bunch, but people from Queens, NY ARE an awful lot like the folks on “Everybody Loves Raymond”.
These people need to get a life, drink more herbal tea, or maybe have a whiskey.
They need to GET OVER THEMSELVES and STFU.
I love Mommy’s Day cause I get presents from two daughters who love their mama!! :~D
Ann Lammott says of Mother’s Day:
“It celebrates the great lie about women: That those with children are more important than those without”
I never perceived it this way. I’ve always thought it was a day to stand in amazement and gratitude for the sacrifices that mothers make out of love and duty.
She probably hates Fathers day even more
Too many cards to buy :)
People like this author are why therapists get rich.
I suppose the author would have a point if there were no such thing as Fathers’ Day.

Happy Mothers day Mom!
I have 3 words for this old bitter battle axe GO STUFF IT!
I’m a mom, grandmother and great grandmother and PROUD to proclaim it. And my boys love me, my step children like me, and my grand and step grand and great grand love me.
SO STUFF IT YOU OLD BIDDY where the sun doesn’t shine.
you should see the sweet card I got in the mail today from my daughter! She is such a jewel now that the rough parts have been knocked off.
When we can’t say MOMS ARE SPECIAL, I shudder to think what might be special.
Got mine a Colt AR-15, heavy barrel, last year. Said “How can I accessorize with this?” Told her not to worry, I’ll take care of the fine piece, and she could wear it whenever she wanted.
Tragically, it was lost in a boating incident during crappy spawn...
Eye volinteer!!!
The lady in my life had cervical cancer at a yery young age and never had the opportunity to have children. I have picked up on some sensitivity on that subject so it makes Mother’s Day a bit awkward.
Sometimes people drown in water. Water is evil. Ban water.
In contrast to the happy serene person she is now? < /sarc>
Personally I love Mother's Day. I loved it even when it was bittersweet because my mother was on the other side of the globe.
Why is it that some people can not stand to see someone happy or having a good time?
