WMR has been informed by sources in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Florida Department of Environmental Protection that the Obama White House and British Petroleum (BP), which pumped $71,000 into Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign -- more than John McCain or Hillary Clinton, are covering up the magnitude of the volcanic-level oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and working together to limit BP's liability for damage caused by what can be called a "mega-disaster."
Obama and his senior White House staff, as well as Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, are working with BP's chief executive officer Tony Hayward on legislation that would raise the cap on liability for damage claims from those affected by the oil disaster from $75 million to $10 billion. However, WMR's federal and Gulf state sources are reporting the disaster has the real potential cost of at least $1 trillion. Critics of the deal being worked out between Obama and Hayward point out that $10 billion is a mere drop in the bucket for a trillion dollar disaster but also note that BP, if its assets were nationalized, could fetch almost a trillion dollars for compensation purposes. There is talk in some government circles, including FEMA, of the need to nationalize BP in order to compensate those who will ultimately be affected by the worst oil disaster in the history of the world. I’m guessing that the full article is not much longer than the excerpt, due to the fact that the author passed out from the effects of extreme hyperventilation.
I have few, if any doubts that this will happen. And yes I know it's British Petroleum.
“They” keep calling this a DISASTER. I want to know why. Facts, not hyperbole.
It IS a tragedy that 11 people lost their lives.
It IS a fact that thousands of gallons of crude oil are spilling into the waters of the Gulf every day.
It IS a fact that people are reacting to news reports of a DISASTER and cancelling vacation$ to the Gulf shores.
I believe it is also a fact that the fishing/shrimping industry is losing ‘millions’ because they are prohibited by the gummint from fishing.
BUT ...
What are the FACTS that make this spill a DISASTER in reality?
I may be reading all the wrong articles, but I have yet to see a genuine disaster. A looming messy clean up of gooey sticky oil globs perhaps. But what disaster?

Mr. Madsden’s ‘report’ on another FR thread refers to a chasm at the bottom of the gulf (as opposed to a broken well pipe), satellites that can see a cavern of oil beneath the floor of the Gulf, and threatens the ruin of the INLAND Everglades if this OCEAN spill is not checked. And his list of hyperboles and questionable references goes on.
I would not put too much stock in his report until his writing gets better.
That’s my opinion.
As far as I can tell, WMR is his blog — “Wayne Madsen Reporting” or something like that.

WHAT chasm? Was the crust of the earth cracked open? I believe the oil’s path into the water is a broken well pipe, yes? Not some chasm.
And this report also refers to satellites that can see below the floor of the Gulf and can discern caverns of crude oil. OMG.
“There is other satellite imagery being withheld by the Obama administration that shows what lies under the gaping chasm spewing oil at an ever-alarming rate is a cavern estimated to be around the size of Mount Everest.”

The only way this clean up cost could come close to a Trillion Dollars is to put the Obama Administration in charge of doing it.
Otherwise, $10 Billion will cover it with plenty to spare.

Thanks, very much. I am trying to understand the difference between an oil platform, a manned oil platform and drilling rigs.
Are the drilling rigs not yet “active” oil platforms?
Is there such a thing as unmanned oil platforms?
An Oil (or Gas) Drilling Rig is used to drill the hole and set equipment. It can also be used to make modifications/upgrades/maintenance.
An Production Platform is used to handle the production of oil and gas after the drilling is completed.
Many smaller platforms are unmanned. They have little equipment and may feed other platforms with separation, injection and other capabilities.
Sometimes a drilling rig is not a separate floating structure but can be an assembly of equipment that gets temporarily mounted on a production platform for workover of existing wells or drilling of new wells.
So there are how many production platforms active in the Gulf?
Where examples of large manned production platforms can be like:
In deep water, there are often many subsea components that are tied to a platform.
