Thanks gg. Just for the record, I’m not against these people owning a pit bull. But, I do want the owners of these dogs held criminally liable if/when their dog seriously injures or kills someone. And, if a person has a violent or drug criminal background, they should not be allowed to own any dog with significant potential to harm others. I also believe that people need to be educated to the potential danger of these breeds (not just pits, but any breed with a high potential for serious bodily injury). I think it is horrible for a family to have chosen a pit bull and then have a child or other family member mauled because they didn’t understand the danger and/or know how to control the animal.

LOL. There are over 300 million people in the U.S. And, you think you have done wonders in educating all of them with regards to ownership of dangerous dogs. This is why so many people in the country have decided upon choosing a less dangerous dog and the incidents of attacks by breeds such as the Pit Bull is on the decrease and not on the rise/s - perhaps in the narrowly defined world in which you live in - in the much larger world that actually exists - not so much.

Funny you should ask that.

It just so happens that nearly every male [and 2 females] in my family either is or was employed by the local state prison, are or were state police/county sheriffs or city police.
Most of our friends are employed by those agencies, as well.
[and my husband is a corrections department retiree]

I’ve been around my share of police dogs.

Years ago, I trained protection Dobes.

Imagine that.

Sorry if I did that I must have been hitting the Basil Hayden. You can delete it from your mail and never have to be bothered with it again..

I think I did Boohoo to you on my dog dying based on a poem you posted. As my dog had to be put down, (like in the poem) she laid her head in my lap and closed her eyes and died...Too bad it offends you now...I remember it now and was not on the Basil Hayden that night. Too bad your offended DA and want to bring it up now...so lets tell everyone what it was about...

A moving poem that again brought back the pain of losing my Teesha... You are such a sweet person....

Yep - ignore my comments. You might have noticed that which I alluded to in those comments, but they escaped you. While serving in the USAF (Security Police) I was intimately involved with K-9 and witnessed how dangerous professionally trained police dogs can be. After leaving the service I spent a lot of time around LE - police, Sherriff’s deputies, and Dept of Corrections. My father served 34 years for the Dept of Corrections and all of his friends were either Corrections Officers or in LE. My wife’s brothers are both retired LE (both have worked for city, county, and federal LE departments). While building a neighborhood watch program in one of the neighborhoods we lived in I had extensive interactions with our local PD and Sherriff’s office, including a number of their K-9 units. My experiences with K-9 units is that the potential for danger exists even in the presents of the handler. This is why the vast majority of these officers did not permit civilians to get too close to their K-9. Next!!!

I am also not against owning these dogs, too many own them that are stupid and don't know what kind of dog they have or how to control them...What pisses me off is the defender on Free Republic with such thin skins, they take chets's post personally and attack the messenger.

My solution to the problem is high premium insurance so the owner has to pay for the damage done and hospital bills that pile up..

My but that is so unreasonable to these people........so we all must hate the poor little beastys...and I agree with your post completely...

You rarely hear any of these people voice even one concern for the poor child that is killed or baby that has his testicles chewed off. just rag on chet...That says much about their character..

So rag on all those that want the messenger stopped...you are telling all just who you are and that includes the lurkers...like good little liberals, its attach the messenger always

[and do NOT send any more suck-up/be my buddy/sob stories to my FR mail box....ever...LEL was totally right about you]

Lets get one thing straight, you see it as a suck up, god forbid, your the last person I'd want to be a buddy to. The sob story as you call it was just how I was feeling reading the poem you posted...GFYS.

As LEL said I can go bat shit crazy, but its from dealing with jacka$$'s like you..

Nah, I wouldn't call it that. But I do recommend we paddle on out of here, and fast!

Yes, that is the one point that is always missing from these defenders - any concern whatsoever for those who are seriously injured, maimed, or killed by the dogs in these articles. No, they would much prefer to cry about some fantasized wholesale banning of these breeds than spend one second showing any concern that a person was injured or killed. I find it interesting their apparent attempt to silence anyone with a different view on this issue. That is not the hallmark of people with conservative values - at least not any that I know.
