I have not bet on a horserace for a long time. Someone remind me:
If I placed 10 to win and 10 to show on a horse that came in 3rd, do I win the show money? (horse paid $7.40)
I was thinking I won $27.00
I did not make a show bet. I only bet him to win and place.
If I understand correctly “show” is for a first or second place winner. Your horse came in third. You lost.
Don’t feel too bad. My “first” horse came in fourth.
Correct that. “Show” is a first, second or third place finisher. “Place” is for a first or second finisher.
And now you know why I lost in the race.
Nevertheless, the horses are magnificent.
One more question: your last name wouldn’t be “Jones”, would it?
Slow horses... what a wonderful hobby!!
The are BEAUTIFUL!!!!
You post says you placed the show bet, which is third. Win, Place, Show.
If you bet to show, and the horse comes in first, second, or third, you collect.
If you bet to place, and the horse comes in first or second, you collect.
if you bet to win, and the horse wins, you collect.
Summary: if the horse places equal to or better than your bet, you win.
My mistake. I only bet the horse to win and to place. Sorry, I am doing about 5 different things at once here this morning.
$10 to Win
$10 to Place
Then you get nothing.
