Rory McIlroy Wins Quail Hollow Championship After Almost Missing the Cut

Rory McIlroy made all kinds of PGA Tour history today at Quail Hollow when he shot a basically perfect round to win the Quail Hollow Championship 2010; and this after he almost missed the cut on Friday. On that momentous day, on the 7th hole, he pulled out an eagle on the par 5 hole and his entire game turned around. From then on, he almost could do no wrong.

Saturday’s play saw him make 9 birdies and he ended up five under par for the tournament. Sunday looked beautiful but the wind challenged everyone. Billy Mayfair started out the day in the lead but dropped quickly back, leaving McIlroy, Mickelson and Angel Cabrera at the top. McIlroy spent the day swapping leads with Cabrera while Mickelson struggled. On the 12th hole, McIlroy took over the lead permanently. On the 15th hole he nailed the green and ended up with an eagle. After a birdie on the 18th hole with a 42′ 8″ putt, Rory finished the round at -15 (62), giving him the course record. He is also the youngest player at 20 to win a PGA Tour event since Tiger Woods in 1996. Hopefully the young Irishman keeps his nose clean, unlike Tiger.

Amazing performance — 16 under par on the weekend! Nice kid, too.

The most promising young talent out there.

Some bit of stuff? I’d say!! That was some round, er weekend. How would you like to make the cut on the number and shoot 66-62 and win going away?

-16 on the weekend, are you kidding?

And how about Ryo winning in Japan with a final round 58 and only needing 20 putts?

The Players Ch. should be interesting next week — Tiger coming off a missed cut; Phil on a hot streak; Young Rory (probably the future #1 player) going for a two-fer.....

That's impressive enough right there. I'm happy for him.

Yep, 1 too many 3’s. But in the end rid it really matter?

Everybody loves this kid and wants him hanging out with them. Lee Westwood has his whole family in Charlotte but didn’t blink having Rory have breakfast with them yesterday. And then Lee is waiting for Rory after the round to congratulate him. And so were others like Bones and I’d bet Phil saught him out too. And I bet the 1st thing Rory asked was how Amy and his Mom were doing.

Great kid, no doubt....

Oh to be 21 again...

And having just received a paycheck $1,151,000....speaking of which (I'm not a linkster) -- does the caddy traditionally pull in 10 percent?

Yeah, probably something like that...tough for the loopers until they get a hold of a good player...

You mean that motor oil company logo wearing POS who thinks he has to take matters into his own hands?
It will be interesting to see if Tiger will play Byron Nelson or the Memorial. Remember he has to be INVITED to play in those events...

That Kiwi thinks he’s the baddest man on the planet.

My bet is Tiger will play the Memorial (Jack will invite him), but not the Byron Nelson.

No way Tiger will skip The Memorial - that's Jack's tournament and he would not dis him by skipping it. Plus, he has won it four times.
