They are ruminents. When I develop three stomaches I’ll reconsider becoming a vegetarian. We’ll be on the same playing field then.

I like meat just fine, but there are plenty of lean herbivores (gazelles, deer, etc.) some paunchy omnivores (bears) and of course there are plenty of fat cats and dogs who eat only meat, and lots of it.

They’re “lean” because they’re ~always~ busy running like hell away from the fast carnivores....;-D

Not to nitpick, but hippos are not actually ruminants. Their digestive system is similar, but not quite as efficient as ruminants. They might be considered pseudo-ruminants.
An interesting fact is that hippos are relatively closely related to cetaceans (whales, porpoises, etc.).
Nevertheless, I agree with your basic point, which is that humans are designed to be omnivores.

Well then, the secret to staying slim is out now, you just let the cat out of the bag.
All anyone has to do to remain slim is to rent a pride of lions (large cats) to stalk them all day, every day.
After all, nothing helps keep you slim as having to run for your lives every day that you want to remain alive.
And if you get too slow and fat... why you get eaten.
So the rest of the herd will stay fit and trim.
What a great diet idea you have. I wonder why nobody else has marketed it before.
