I have 2 of these singles he's put out, the one by Wanda Jackson and the one by Dex Romwebber & his sister.
Wanda tackles an Amy Winehouse song. I'd never heard anything by Amy before. Still not amazed by Amy but I like the Dap Kings (who back Amy), especially with Sharon Jones.
I just read where the Wanda Jackson album contains a cover of Bob Dylan's Thunder on the Mountain. I wonder if she will be looking for Alicia Keys clear through Tennessee. Apparently he called Bob looking for suggestions on songs for her to do. I can't imagine the absolute weirdness of having Bob Dylan's number in your phone. Or Jack White's for that matter.
Here is a live version of Shakin' All Over. It is the other side of You Know I'm No Good.
It is hard to recommend highly enough Loretta Lynn's Van Lear Rose,
Portland Oregon is a duet with Jack. In articles I have read about it, Jack's style caught her a little off guard. They recorded in a house in a week or two. She was used to a long process in a real studio.
I think his view about spending a lot of time tinkering takes away the emotion and what is real about music.
