Yep, I favor VMware also, and use it on Windows, MacOSX, Linux.

Note: The "Player" is free, but doesn't allow you to create a new VM from scratch. For that you want to get either a) one of the glitzy workstation products (Workstation for Windows or Linux, Fusion for Mac) which all cost something, -OR- b) get the free (yaaay) VMware Server product for Windows or Linux. I like the latter, though I've used them all very successfully and extensively at work and home since 2006.

There's also VirtualBox, an open-source virtualization program.
