“I’ve actually tried to get any Windows user to run their computer on the Internet, use it for web browsing and downloading and all their normal and everyday stuff that they do with the computer (basically for all the stuff that they do with a computer) — for a year — and run that Windows machine without any anti-virus program, direct on the Internet and not behind a firewall.”

.
More mindless babble?

Like hundreds here I have done that for close to 18 years. Presently I use three machines that are always on, and have virus scanners loaded, but disabled due to the drag on production, and haven’t found a virus since early 2003 when a client emailed one to me.

I run scans during the night about every two weeks for the safety of my clients systems, but never find anything more than adware from Amazon or click.

Virus problems are grossly over-rated these days.

You were saying ...

More mindless babble?

It's not mindless babble for Macintosh users, because they don't have the over 100,000 viruses that exist for the Windows platform. I don't think one can come up with as many as the fingers on even one hand for any viruses that have infected and been spread on the Mac OS X platform.

It's well known that a large majority of Macintosh users don't use anti-virus software at all, don't run it, don't scan with it -- don't care and probably will never care -- at the rate it's been going for the last ten years on the Mac OS X platform.

It may be mindless babble for you, as a non-Macintosh user -- but for all those Macintosh users, it's a beautiful thing ... :-)

Yup.
There is not a bigger pain in the ass than an anti-virus program.
I have never used one.
I’d rather take my chances.
Once in a while i’ll do a free online scan with Housecall.

The way i look at it is if i ever do get that crazy virus well it makes for a great excuse to finally reload my computer and lose all the useless crap that has built up on it.
