When the VAT hits the liquor store, it will finally hit most Obama voters where they live.

Comrade, you forget one thing. Members of the party will have a card that exempts them from paying the tax.

"I feel your pain." LOL

And I feel the same way about a VAT in terms of how it will hit the "poor" the hardest, even though I personally hate the idea of paying yet another tax. But fear not, I am sure that any VAT that 0bama imposes on us will simply apply only to "evil rich people."

Be careful what you wish for. Once the chains go on, they aren’t coming off.

Move to Europe for 30 days and let me know how much you love the VAT after that.

While most of us may like the idea of a slap of reality to wake up the freeloaders, what makes you think this will do it?

The earners will pay, while those receiving Obama money will never feel it--the democrats will trample over each other to co-sponser the "VAT Supplemental Benefits Act of 2011" to give the freeloaders an extra 20% to cover the tax, AND a bonus check come tax time.

I'm also against the use of this tool, which is as far from a conservative idea as I can think of.

Ugh! There are more than just Obama voters who will get hit hard by a VAT. It's a regressive tax and will tear apart those who work hard and who are living day to day. Your post is selfish.

A VAT is designed to obfuscate the problem. Taxpayers truly won’t know what hit them - that’s the point of it.

We’re talking about a population that thinks it does NOT pay income tax because most people “get money back” come April 15. A substantial increase in prices due to a VAT will be condemned as “greedy corporations”, not a greedy government. “When the VAT hits the liquor store” they’ll be mad at the clerk, not at the incumbent legislators who imposed hidden taxes throughout the product’s lifecycle; they’ll demand the retailer or manufacturer be punished, and express that demand by _keeping_ the very same twits who imposed the tax (and thus price hike) in the first place, twits who having imposed the VAT will rail against “greedy corporations”.

You don’t get it. They will start the VAT tax at 2%, so nobody cares. Then, whenever they need a little more cash, they’ll jack it up by a quarter of a percent.

In ten years, we’ll have the 25% VAT and a 45% top marginal rate. But it will be added so slowly, the frog will never jump out of the pot.

We need to draw a line in the sand on this. No VAT. No more money.

You’ll see a reaction for a short time, but the sheeple will meekly accept their new tax without questioning.

You want the ones who don’t pay the income tax to feel the hurt. How about those of use who ARE paying, and will still be hit by the VAT??

I’m always entertained by pols who tell us the only way to lower to deficit and debt is to raise taxes. Once they see that additional money flowing in, do we REALLY think they’re going to pass by the opportunity to grab that cash for their states/districts?

The ‘Poor’ (ie. Obama voters) get their food ‘free’. They also get clothing, medical insurance, medicine and their housing free, compliments of Obama and the welfare machine. The VAT will not affect them in the least.

Further, their discretionary funding, given to them by the goverment - will be inflated to account for the VAT. So, in the end they will either get even more ‘free’ stuff; or at the worst will remain the same.

However, for those of us who chose to work to support the freeloaders, we will find that the costs just to feed and clothe our families will increase by 15-20%.

1. They won’t apply it to food, at first

2. The poor could get a “rebate”

3. The sheeple won’t know because it won’t be on the receipt

the sheeple will blame the private sector for the price hikes.

Had a thought. What if they are floating the vat idea in order to get people thinking about making purchases this year in order to not get hit with the vat later. This would increase economic activity leading up to the election where the rats could claim that the economy is perking up. Then after the election, WHAM we get hit with all existing taxes going up and a novel VAT slapped on us.
Thoughts?

To make a VAT palatable to the Democrat base, I believe it will have, as other posters have suggested, either

A VAT generates enormous paperwork compared to a retail sales tax, and a simple retail sales tax is a better idea than an insidious tax like the VAT. However, I am against even a retail sales tax unless the income tax is ended by repealing the 16th Amendment, which I regard as utterly unlikely.

Sure, the prices will rise. However the beauty of the VAT is that it keeps taxes hidden. As a result, the libtards can blame “evil corporations” for not being willing to suck it up and jus pay their “fair share.”

Hidden taxes are never a good thing.
