Does your pup climb trees? The breed is famous for it.

I agree, We’ve had 6 of them over the past 45 years and the are the BEST!!

This site will link you to breeders in your particular area so you can actually visit them and get a sense of how they raise their dogs.
We are getting another GSD and have gone to only those who do not breed strictly for the cash and whose pups are raised inside with the family rather then in a kennel. WE will only buy if both parents are available to see and the surrounding in which the dogs are kept are scrupulously clean.

I checked out the Monks of New Skeet. The get $3000.00 and have a waiting list a mile long. Frankly I cannot see the benefit of paying that much since there is no extraordinary guarantee and while the pictures are all very nice it seems they get all that money simply because they can.

"The Monks of New Skete Even if you can't afford, or abide the 2-3 year wait list for one of their dogs, their books will tell you how to locate a good breeder."The Monks rock!!!!
I didn't find out about the Monks of New Skete till after I adopted my most perfect 8 year old Shepherd. I did buy their books which are beautiful and just a pleasure to read. One can just feel the love they have for these dogs.

Courage is looking fantastic and so fast too! WOW! His eyes are alive!
I want to play with those ears!

I had to rescue him from a tree in the lake a few weeks back. He went in after a muskrat and ended up in an old willow that lays in the water.

Sounds like great advice for most people :) Thank you!!! I don’t need a puppy, a younger dog I wouldn’t mind. I just have one thing that concerns me about that. I have a toy fox terrier and a cat and a learning disabled child(adult body, child mind). I always felt getting a puppy is the best for the situation. They are then raised with all of this. If you get an older dog even if it’s a young one and they aren’t use to the new animals and daughter who might just give the dog a great big hug real fast. Don’t know how a dog would react to that.
