Hopkins is typically excellent. The rest of the movie (and the book for that matter) are contingent on one's taste for Steven King. It has kind of the "Stand By Me" nostalgia with a little psychic phenomena thrown in to raise the creep factor.
In order to fully get the point of the book, you have to read the entire Dark Tower series....
